Bert Weedon R.I.P

Post by Marian » Fri Apr 20, 2012 12:08 pm

I've just read of the death of guitarist Bert Weedon at the age of 91. I remember him being on tv, and for his "Play in a Day" guitar teaching books, which didn't work for me!

Jack Jones on his facebook page wrote about dick Clark,
" credits dick Clark for giving him great exposure to young record buyers through appearances on “American Bandstand” in the early 1960s, recalls that, “Dick Clark was one of the most generous, honest and unaffected people I‘ve ever known. We would get together annually at (Suzanne Sommers) home in Palm Springs for cracked crab dinners. We will be grateful for his time with us."

Marian, my Mom and Dad remember watching dick Clark when they were young, and so do me and my siblings. Yep he was a figure during rock music's infancy that made the music and singers acceptable!

Sad to hear the news of Bert Weedon, born in East Ham London. He was a very talented guitarist and was said to be one of the nicest persons anyone could wish to meet, and raised huge sums of money for charity.
R.I.P. Bert Weedon.

Sad to hear also of the passing of dick Clark. There is a video on Facebook of him on American Bandstand with Al Martino and the Young Rascals as guests.
R.I.P. dick Clark.

Bert was also a member of the BBC Show Band and accompanied Matt both in the Show Band and in a small group on the radio - a couple of songs on 'Heart Of A Man' feature him.
