Mary Tamm R.I.P

Post by Marian » Thu Jul 26, 2012 8:31 pm

Just heard the sad news that Mary Tamm has just died of cancer at 62. She was Doctor Who's companion (Tom Baker) in the series. She also appeared in other tv series, her last one in Eastenders.

We watched Dr Who in the early series, but not in the recent years.

I'm a "Whoian" but I'm afraid I never saw the Tom Baker series. I started with Peter Davison and then the 9th to the current 11th Doctor. RIP Mary Tamm.

I agree with Karl. I would hide behind a chair when the Darleks came on TV. When I was a poor graphics student in the 80's, we went to Bristol to see an exhibition of Classic British Design in The 20th Century, and the creator of the Darleks brought on stage an original Darlek. However, R.I.P Mary Tamm.

I am a Doctor Who fan but Mary's years in the programme kind of passed me by as she appeared in the generally less well regarded later Tom Baker stories. However, she was quite striking to look at during those years: an attractive and elegant lady, and a fine actress, I'm sure. She is now the fourth Doctor Who actor-companion to have died in just over a year - the others being Nicholas Courtney, who played Brigadier Alastair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart; Elisabeth Sladen, who played Sarah-Jane Smith; and Caroline John, who played Liz Shaw during Jon Pertwee's first series as the Doctor - and one wonders how many more will leave us between now and the show's 50th anniversary in November 2013. Hopefully, none!

How sad...

The husband of Doctor Who actress Mary Tamm died just hours after giving a eulogy at her funeral, her agent has said.

Marcus Ringrose is believed to have had a heart attack at home in Battersea, south London, after Tuesday's funeral.

Barry Langford said Mr Ringrose had been at his computer replying to well-wishers who wrote to him after his wife's death when he collapsed.

Yes, very sad, so soon after Mary Tamm's death, and they leave a daughter who has now lost her parents so close together.
