I just realised I don't have any Joe South records , just his songs by other artists - I just ordered hit Hits cd. I did a google search, he had put on a lot of weight over the years, sometimes you get a shock when you haven't seen a celebrity for awhile.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for posting this in honor of Joe South.
I was very sad to hear this. My favorite of Joe South's that he wrote and recorded was "Don't It Make You Wanna Go Home"...
I just made a movie a month ago of my vacation with my sister in our hometown...the photos I took of the house where we were little, when we first heard Matt sing!!

, those photos of our birth-house in my movie are shown while Joe South sings "Don't It Make You Wanna Go Home." (My movie also features two of Matt's and one of U2's.)
Joe South wrote so many great songs, and many others recorded them well as did he, but I think "Don't It Make You..." is his finest. I'm glad he was here and created his art:

You know he also wrote "YO-YO" for the Osmonds and "I Knew You When" for Donny Osmond and then later Linda Rondstadt covered it, just modifying the Osmond arrangement. a tad

Hi Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrobert! Welcome back!
That was Joe's biggest hit in America too, besides "Rose Garden" (I much prefer Joe's recording of Rose Garden to Lynn Annderson's). Other hits were "Hush", "Children", and "Walk a Mile in My Shoes". Pretty phenomenal talent, both musically and lyrically.
My sister and I had Joe's Rose Garden, Don't it Make You Wanna Go Home, and Games People Play on an album that got a real workout. We were talking about him earlier this year and enjoying his songs again on Youtube.
One of our Good Guys, for sure. He was a session musician on MANY big name's BIG singles and albums, including Aretha Franklin ("Chain of Fools", great song) and Bob Dylan's monumental Blonde on Blonde. One of the very talented Good Guys.
