Well, that was a surprise result ! I think Andy is a nice singer, and the song was Ok, but I just cannot see it being strong enough for Eurovision.

My favourite was Simona--a revelation from her days as "Maria"--I think we may have had a chance with that one ! Too late now !

I liked the new format of the show, and found it much more entertaining, and good to hear what the judges, John and Carrie thought--even though they were wrong. Nearly 3 months to go before the actual contest.

Hi Marian

Simona was my favourite too - I thought it would be a great strategy to send an Eastern European to represent us in Serbia! But I am glad that we are sending a singer who is competent and who is serious about his music. I'm not sure how well we'll do as not all of Europe is as multi-ethnic as we are unfortunately. Particularly in the former Eastern Bloc. Lets hope they judge on the ability of the singer and the song!

The show worked pretty well I thought, although in Sweden they have 4 shows and about 30 artists to choose from. I'm glad that they've increased the role of the judges John & Cary, both of whom have a great enthusiasm for Eurovision.

I somehow thought you'd be back tonight Mike with the Eurovision choice show!!
I enjoyed it, I quite likes Simona too, but out of Andy and Michelle, I thought Michelle would have had more of a chance. Hopefully, I will be proved wrong. Andy has the better voice. :D :D

Andy has a good voice but we agree with Marian, we can't see the song having any impact at all. It is the kind of tuneless song that would be difficult to grow on you, and unfortunately this isn't a contest for lone singers anymore. It's for showy or outrageous acts.

Don't forget that last year it was won by a solo artist singing a very durgy ballad!

That's true Mike, but as the trend goes we reckon we shall be relying heavily on the usual votes from the neighbouring countries, and on this one we think it will take more than that. Pehaps and yes, hopefully, we'll have to eat our words.

Ahh - the voting  Its a nightmare these days isn't it. All I will say, diplomatically, is that to win, you do need support from ALL of the countries. Whilst that makes us unlikely to win, it also does mean that those pesky former Eastern Bloc countries won't win just by voting for each other, they do need the scores for the Western European countries as well!

Anyway, good luck to Andy, he is so keen and proud as well as being very talented. At least we know we won't be embarassed. And maybe, just maybe, those countries that don't vote for us because we send 'joke songs' e.g. Scooch and Daz Sampson, will take us more seriously.

Andy was marked down by the 'powers that be'for a chance to sing at the Eurovision contest.- nothing in showbiz is left to chance these days!

I must admit Mark that I am a little annoyed that it was Terry and his wildcard that bought Andy back  - the Romanian singer was pretty good and far more suitable for an Eastern European final  ! But he is great at what he does

Definitely a turkey Marian - I hope

It reminds me a bit of the episode of 'Father Ted' where Ted & Dougal write a song called 'My lovely horse' for the 'Eurosong' competition. Its chosen because the TV company can't afford for Ireland to have to host the 'Eurosong' for the 5th year on the run, so they pick a song they think is a dead cert to lose. Only to find it wins! 8)

I think that happened in real life too, didn't it---I cannot remember the 2 guys names [certainly never heard from them since]--it had a title like "Rock and Roll ???" , and was thought to be a no-hoper but Ireland ended up winning---again .

Andy Abrahams was interviewed on "Breakfast" this morning. He said how shocked he'd been to be chosen.
