PETULA CLARK IN CONCERT
PETULA CLARK IN CONCERT
I saw Petula in Glasgow last night on the second night of her short UK tour.
It's around ten years since I last saw Pet in concert and she amazed me then and she did again last night.
For a woman who will be 81 next month she is wonderful, she has no warm-up only her and her band.
She comes across as a very gracious person, her inter-action with the audience is very good and she is rather funny too. Close to the finale some people gave her gifts of flowers etc but the first one was a box of chocolates and she exclaimed "Oh food", I haven't eaten all day"!
I noticed her pianist/conductor had a monitor with the song set etc on it and she told us she sometimes had to ask him what came next, close to the end of the show it mal-functioned and she was waiting to start her next song so she told us what the problem was and as she did so someone came on to fix it - so Petula being the trouper that she is said "We dont have to wait for it do we, we can do it without that" - the audience applauded her and off she went into the song.
The finale of course was Downtown and she had the audience clapping along before doing one more song.
Well done Petula she really is a living legend!

Sounds like a pretty groovy concert Karl. Glad you had a grand time. The monitor malfunction shows what a troooper and a true professional she is by chucking it all and going with the final song!!
Re: PETULA CLARK IN CONCERT
A wonderful concert to be remembered Karl! Glad Petula did so well.

Re: PETULA CLARK IN CONCERT
That sounds like it was an amazing concert--she is astounding to still be doing concerts.

Hi All,
I was in Glasgow on Thursday night, but was invited out to dinner at The Grand Central Hotel. if it wasn't for that, I would of loved to have seen Petula. Smooth Radio was still advertising it right up to the day of the concert. Either way, I had to be up on Friday at 05:00 hours for work!!

Re: PETULA CLARK IN CONCERT
Sounds like you had a great evening and thoroughly enjoyed Petula's concert Karl.
It was Six years ago when a petition was raised to make Petula Clark a Dame, and after a show business career spanning 70 years, one would think that if anyone deserves this title Petula does, but the petition was obviously unsuccessful. Probably due to not enough signatures.
Many commented that she left this country to live in France and Geneva etc, and bought property abroad, but at the same time forgetting of the times that she has returned here for lengthy stays and performed to packed audiences, and first and foremost she was born here and began radio broadcasting and acting as a young child.
There are a number of stars and celebrities who have received titles and awards, and couldn't hold a candle to Petula Clark, and why someone in sport, ( some of them Five minute wonders) who can ride a bike or run fast can receive a gong from Buckingham Palace.
Where's the justice.

Well said, Lena.
A great point well made.

L&H I agree with you, some people are hardly famous at all before receiving MBE'S or whatever.
Petula Clark certainly deserves to be a Dame, after all they gave that honour to Shirley Bassey who also lives abroad.

Re: PETULA CLARK IN CONCERT
Can someone explain why agreeing with posts concerning Petula Clark not receiving due recognition in her home country due to being domiciled abroad is misconstrued by two/three forum members?

Certainly I will clarify my post Don. You post so rarely but when you do it always seems a derogatory reply to something that's been posted.
