Ripper Street Cancelled

Post by Eman » Tue Dec 10, 2013 2:47 pm

Just learned the news that "Ripper Street" has been cancelled. I'm gutted because it was one of the few shows that was actually pretty good. I'm hearing it lost in the ratings to something silly called "I'm A Celebrity..Get Me Outta Here". Also in danger was the second season of "Last Tango In Halifax". Oh well the second series of "Ripper Street" hasn't shown here in the US yet, so at least I can look forward to that, but if they axe "Downton Abbey" well then I'm not gonna be the only one throwing a fit but so will my Mum.

Eamon are you talking about the UK or the Us cancelleing Ripper St?

In my opinion I'm A Celebrity is garbage with a capital C. I can't stand that kind of show.

Yes I just went into the Ripper St website.

How can it be up against Celebrity in the ratings? Can't the viewers do what I do, watch one show and record another - isn't that what dvd recorders are for?

I longj for the day they cancel the reality shows like Big Brother etc:

Bring back some variety and glamour, Robbie Williams recent concert was shobbiz at it's best.

Hands up who wants Live From Her Majesty's back or Sunday Night At The London Palladium?

I know we won't get the stars we grew up with as they've all passed on, retired or too old to perform but many of the new stars are rather good too.

Paul O'Grady on his show tonight said right at the start about the cancellation and asked the BBC not to or else he'd come round and put their windows in!!!!!

Good for Paul!

All I can say is Hmmph and that's a sanitized version of what I really want to say but I'm too much of a gentleman to say what I really think!!!

There is a large picture of Matthew Macfadyen in Radio Times for tonight's finale of Ripper Street and I amj hoping it is not the end of the series. However other things are mentioned and I was very surprised to read they have cancelled Whitechapel - why? That was a great series and a brilliant cast, it just seems to ome ethe BBC are very underhand and cancel things on the quiet.

I buy Radio Times every week and never read anything about it until now. I realise Whitechapel was onITV but Radio Times writes about other programmes too.

Casualty is on every week and has been for years, it's well past it's sell by date - why don't they cancel that and keep the better stuff?

Karl, I'm reading elsewhere that some independent companies overseas (here in the US) may fund for the continuation of Ripper Street. So keep your fingers crossed and your bowler hat on stand by and let's hope it comes true!!

About time the BBC got the message. Let's hope it does and the third season ties up loose ends about Inspector Reid's daughter.

A new series of Ripper Street is being made. Amazon are financing the series to show on their On Demand format...........a few months later the BBC are being allowed to show it too :)
