ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER & DON BLACK.

Post by mariana44 » Sat Dec 21, 2013 4:35 pm

After seeing a little of ALW's new show on the Royal Variety, I had an email from Dress Circle to tell me that the soundtrack of "Stephen Ward" was readu for preorder---lyrics by Don Black--not sure why I was surprised as I know they have collaberated before--I think it was Sunset Boulevard. Also in the cast is Joanna Riding--one of my favorites from the musical world--she was the best ever Julie in Carousel--even better than Shirley Jones-never thought I would say that. So I may wait till it is on Amazon, but I will definately order it-I love ALW.

I feel very strange that I remember this case--it is like living history . !!

i think the best over production was at the National Theatre in London some years ago, with Joanna Riding and Michael Hayden.I also bought the cd of it, which is my favourite soundtrack of Carousel;--I have about 7 or 8 versions--including a studio album with arah Brightman and Barbara Cook---Barbara Cook played Julie, which always seemed strange to me. I also have a Japanese version too.
As most everyone on here knows it is my favourite musical. and I bought the Lp out of my very first wage packet--thge very first record that I bought, or owned.

I think people say they don't like ALW, as they think his music is trite or repetitive. His music may be over the top at times, but he wrote some wonderful songs.

I know this is similar to the other thread, but let's list here the brilliant songs that ALW wrote -- and more than 13!

I think it was in the "Ask Richard" section re: Matt's recording of Memory.

Let's try to make 113. Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again is stunning.
