CILLA - THE PLAY

The three part play Cilla starts Monday September 15th, based on the young Cilla's life.
Sheridan Smith plays the part of Cilla and is doing her own singing, from what I've read so far there are a few things I didn't know about Cilla despite the fact I was a teenager then and read the music papers.
Although Dusty and Jackie were my favourites I first saw Cilla in concert when I was 16 and she was fantastic.

I think it's going beyond just becoming famous Marian as you see her in the studio recording Alfie.
There's the famous quote that George Martin talks about when Burt Bacharach kept her doing take after take to find that little bit of magic and George told him I think we found that on Take (whatever one it was)

I was impressed with the first episode last night, the accents are not always easy to understand but I thought Sheridan had Cilla's mannerism down to a fine art, however onstage was a different matter.Perhaps Cilla moved her hands more before she was famous but she certainly didn't move that much when she was famous.
Sheridan's own singing voice closely resembled Cillas, it will be interesting to watch it next week when "George Martin" comes into it.

I think Cilla was very lucky ....she was given a killer song ....and she owned it ....but personally for me ...it went down hill from then ....and I think the same for Lulu ...with To Sir With Love ....I think they were both extremely lucky ....and feisty ...which you need in that industry ..espeacially as a woman ....you have no friends in the music buisness ...

Sorry Maxine but I don't aqree at all, Cilla recorded many great songs after Anyone Who Had A Heart and went on to become a much loved tv star with her series which inxcidentally had top International stars as guests including Johnny Mathis, Cliff Richard and Dusty.
You should take a listen to Cilla's hits cd and hear just how many great songs AND HITS she had!
I followed all these stars as a teenager and loved all their songs (apart from Alfie) Not one of my favourite Cilla tracks at all.
Come up to my house for a week and I'll educate your musical palate with some great 60's sounds!!!!

Shame on you Jon, falling asleep at the tv is an old man's habit - what's YOUR excuse? lI's also a habit I have never got into as I am interested in what I[m watching, if not I switch it off .

I tend to agree with Maxine---they both got through on their personalities, rater than their singing. I cannot think of any LULu track that i like, and maybe just one or two from Cilla.
But still have not caught up with the first episode yet.
