STYLISTICS

Post by mariana44 » Sat Nov 22, 2014 11:50 am

I am really excited as it is only a week away to when Jim and I go to Tunbridge Wells, and see the Stylistics in concert---plus other 70's and soul music concert.

Johnny Mathis sang a lot of Stylistic songs--like "I'm stoned in love with you" "Betcha by Golly wow" "You'll never get to heaven "
so they are really familiar to me. I cannot wait !!

One of my favourites from the Stylistics now is "You make me feel Brand new", as it is special to Jim and me. !

Awwww that's awesome Mariana. I've always loved the Stylistics and Johnny's covers were spot on as he used their producers. :-) "I'm Coming Home" was and is one of my all time fave lps!!!

Me too, i love "I'm coming home" Actually Jm has not recorded "You'll never get to heaven" as far as I can recall, but I have heard him sing it lots of times in concerts, going back to 1982, in Toronto.

I had not spotted that Maxine. I must admit that I cannot wait.

Out tonight to watch Jim play darts, in a local pub. Might catch up with his daughter too !!

Actually, I think these Stylistics are the new ones except for Russell Tompkins, Jr. who was the lead falsetto. Still a good act to see. OMG If I could hear and see them sing "I"m Stone In Love With You" again that would be so awesome. Saw them during their heyday in the 70's and they were great. Sadly another great Philly group that I'll never see because the majority have passed away are The Spinners (Detroit Spinners in the U.K.). They had some of the greatest choreography. Along with the Stylistics they were on top of the world in the 70's.

Marian -- that is so neat that you and Jim are going to see the Stylistics. My favourite song is People Make the World Go Round. Second it Stop. Look, Listen.

I checked my chart books, and they had ten top 40 hits in the US and sixteen in the UK. I only know 5 of the 16. Back then often different singles were released. Doesn't happen much anymore.

Thanks Paul--it is only at a small local theatre in tunbridge Wells, but they have lots of shows, pantos, concerts etc. The Stylistics are just on for the one night with another group ca\lled Odyssey, along with some other 70's music. Should be fun !!

How exciting about Odyssey! I didn't know they were still together. They would be the star attraction for me. I love Don't Tell Me Tell Her, Going Back to my Roots, Use It Up Wear It Out, and Inside Out. I'm sure they'll do those plus their biggest hit Native New Yorker. You and Jim will be dancing in the aisles!

It's nice that the show is in a small theatre in a lovely town. (I think it's lovely as I've seen photos.)

Only if it's not much trouble, please provide us the set lists -- if you can.

Talk about dancing in the aisles, the 60's show I was at recently they were being told off for dancing in the aisles.

I will do my best Paul to get a list of songs for you. I am not sure about any dancing---we are not in the flat arena, but up the stairs. We shall see. I think Jim will want to dance, if he can.

Just to let you know , the concert was great--everyone was up dancing, but as we were on the tiered stalls, we could not get up till the end. Could not get a list Paul, it was so dark, I could not see to write. Only the 2 groups, Odysseyb followed by Styliictics. i know mosat of the Stylistic tracks, and when I heard Odyssey, i recognised them too. I have opered a cd of Osyssey to play at Jims birthday party on 2 weeks time, i already have the Stylistics. i loved the Stylistics.
