We are so sad to hear that Ed Stewart Radio presenter and DJ has died from the results of a stroke at the age of 74.
It was from a request for an Al Martino song on Ed's Sunday evening programme that led to Ed interviewing Al live on his programme that resulted in Al coming back to the UK after 12 years absence, and we will always be grateful to Ed for that.
We met ED on Three other occasions and those of us who were present at Mickie Monro's funeral will remember that ED with several other celebs attended on that day.
He was a popular DJ and host on one of the kids favourite programme in the Sixties ...Crackerjack and a lovely man too.
R.I.P. Ed.

Yes, Ed was at Mickie's funeral but didn't come to the wake. It was a great shame as it wasn't until we saw some photographs of the doves being released that we knew he was there!
Michele and Ed had been in touch over the years and although she is away at sea i have e-mailed her to let he know.

Another voice from my childhood too that I'll greatly miss. He was only on Radio 2 on Christmas day too.

A very familiar voice on the radio and remember him well from Crackerjack.
Very sad news and quite a shock.

Such terrible news :( :( .........I really liked Ed "Stewpot" Stewart he was one of my favourite TV and radio presenters :D ..........as mentioned he was one of the presenters of Crackerjack which always came on at 4.55 pm on a Friday ......."it's Friday it's five to five and its Crackerjack" :) ............Ed also presented Junior Choice on radio and a few years ago, about four or five, Ed presented the lovely Sunday teatime show on Radio2 (probably the one L&H are referring to) playing such a great selection of songs.........he had an artist of the day/week and Matt was chosen on one occasion :D .......goodness knows why he was removed from that teatime slot and left Radio2 altogether :( :( ............he was replaced by Johnnie Walker who played completely different and not as good as music as Ed did  ...............I'm pleased to hear that Ed went to Mickie's funeral service .................RIP Ed Stewart..........God Bless ............. :( :( :( :(

Yes, a real shame Robert and quite a shock specially after Ed had presented his "Junior Choice " programme on Christmas morning, and on one blog over a hundred people had already commented on the programme and those regular songs that brought back memories of their childhood, like Terry Scott's My Bruvver, Puff The Magic Dragon, and Benny Hill's. Ernie
You are right Robert, Johnnie Walker's 5 'o'clock programme of songs never filled that gap after Ed was unceremoniously removed by the BBC. :x

Yes another favourites from early years Ed Stewpot. R.I.P
I first saw him when he opened our hospital fete which must have been 45 years ago as our daughter was a babe in arms then. I missed seeing him at Mickey's funeral but heard he was there. He will be sadly missed.
