Manu Dibango

Post by paul jh » Fri Apr 03, 2020 3:58 pm

Cameroonian singer Manu Dibango died at age 81 last week in Paris of COVID-19. He had a big hit in the US in 1973 with Soul Makossa. Eman will remember it. I'm not sure it was popular in the UK. It was quite a distinctive record, and I still listen to it.

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Hey Paul, yep I do know Soul Makossa by Manu Djbango.. That was one of the earliest "disco" records in the 70's. Did you know that Michael Jackson was sued for the breakdown in his song Wanna Be Starting Something because he used the lines "Mama se, mama sa, mama coo sa" which were the lyrics in Soul Makossa.
