Quantum of Solace - - Daniel Craig does it again!

No - not take his clothes off  But he does pull off a great follow-up to the sensational 'Casino Royale' of 2006.

With a nod to the original Fleming books, Craig's Bond is more of a brooding and tortured soul. The film follows on immediately from the end of 'Casino Royale', with Bond seeking revenge for Vesper Lynd. With more of the 'Bourne-esque' chase scenes across cities and roof-tops of cities, 'Quantum' has all the feeling of a contemporary thriller. With a breathtaking array of countries visited, there is plenty of stunning vista's, but few 'jet-set' locations.

'M', brilliantly played by Dame Judi, has a much larger part than normal, and adds some warmth to what could have been quite a cold film. This is not the Bond of the Roger Moore wise-cracking era. Its a Bond seeking the revenge for the death of his love. Amongst all that there is a super-villain, with a dastardly plot to hold the world to ransom for its most precious resource.

Some fantastic set-piece stunts and a spectacular ending leave you feeling very satisfied. Only the title track lets it down. With Casino Royale, the theme left you exhilarated. On 'Quatum' it had me putting popcorn in my ears to drown out the durge!

Sounds a good film anyhow Mike, "Casino Royale" was excellent, but I have to say that I enjoy most of the Bond films, Roger Moore was always my favourite for some reason, I guess it's because he was the James Bond while I was a child in the seventies and early eighties.

I know nearly everyone prefers Sean Connery as Bond---but Roger Moore was always my favourite Bond.

I haven't (yet) seen Quantum of Solcace but I know it's received very mixed reviews, some reviewers giving it 1 out of 5 and others 4 out of 5. Strange how different people can react so differently to the same thing.

Yes, Jon, speaking of differing opinions, I must add my support to the true Bond: Sean Connery :)

George Lazenby's performance is very underrated!

Always difficult because if you read the books then Daniel Craig's portrayal is pretty accurate, as is Sean Connery's in the earlier films - 'From Russia with Love' being a good example.

Roger Moore brought his wise-cracking humour to the part, which is great entertainment, but probably was too nice to be Bond!

Somehow Sean Connery managed to get the balance just right, he was definately James Bond for me.

Just come home from seeing "Quantum of Solace" and I feel quite exhausted! It's definately an all action film with some good chase scenes, flying scenes, explosions, fire and great visual effects. Some of the action scenes, if not all of them, were so fast and furious it was difficult to take it all in at times.
There were some beautiful scenic views, especially of Italy.
All in all I enjoyed it, especially Daniel Craig who seems to have made Bond his own.
I was surprised to recognise the actress who played Tess of the Durbervilles as a minor love interest for 007 in the film, and she certainly comes to a 'sticky' end.
I'm sure this was more the Bond Ian Fleming had in mind when he wrote the books and I look forward to more to come.
Marian

I went to see a Quantity of Sawdust last night at the pictures and went with 11 work colleagues.
The facts of the night are...

1) Out of the 11, only two people liked the film
2) I was one of the 2 who enjoyed it, though I have to say, I thought the plot was terrible with enough holes to drive a juggernaught through.
3) The action was terrific, the pace of the film never flagged, though I did think some sequences were badly shot & cut and it was difficult to make out what was happening - I think Marian might of alluded to this above.
4) I REALLY like the theme tune!!!

Graham's rating for a Quantity of Sawdust is.... 3 out of 5.

My son really liked the them tune too Gray!
Pleased you enjoyed the film. Even though it wasn't all that long, it was a bit too long for me. I preferred the Bourne films.
(It took me a few seconds, but then the Quantity of Sawdust penny dropped!)

I have to agree that the plot was pretty thin - i didn't want to say so in my initial 'review' as I still enjoyed the film!

But the theme tune still hasn't grown on me!
