Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Sun Nov 16, 2008 9:16 pm

Have just heard that wonderful actor comedian Reg Varney has passed away at the age of Ninety Two.
Remembered mainly for his appearances TV series, "The Rag Trade " and "On The Buses."

Sad news. We can do with all the good comedy actors we can get. They are few and far between these days.

I suppose they could hardly miss out Joan Collins from Anthony Newleys "This is your life"-as she was married to him , at one time, and they had 2 children together !!

I always liked Anthony Newley--nobody quite like him--a one-off you could say. I remember when he started with "Idle on Parade"--then crazy songs like "Strawberry Fair"---and my favourite "Why"

Interesting to hear you were at Anthony Newley's This is Your Life Mark. Have you ever been to any others? You must have met quite a number of interesting celebrities over the years. (Not meaning to make you sound old of course!)

We imagine that Reg Varney would be very approachable, so that was nice to have that memory of him Mark. Anthony Newley's voice is so easily recogniseable, and of course he played The Artful Dodger in "Oliver Twist " in, 1948 even though he was Seventeen years of age at the time.
Our Sinatra magazine " Perfectly Frank" came today and Andy Prior was given worthy praise for his appearance at the Sinatra convention this year, and one couple who had seen Mark recently suggested having Mark Porter.
Now that sounds a brilliant idea to us Mark.

Hi Guys,
Andy Prior is a very good singer/ musician, and a friend, im glad he had a good day at the sinatra society. I couldnt get along this year i was a member for a long time until things changed hands then just never got round to it, i should re join.
i actually did what was probably the first live concert at their annual convention with a big band in 1994, then again a few years later, i have also performed for the various branches around the country. always enjoyable.
it would be nice to do another one!!
