Radio 2 Weekend Schedule Changes

Here are the Radio 2 schedule changes. I'm not happy that Alan Titchmarsh has lost a half hour -- especially to that new touchy-feely Paul O'Grady programme. :( But at least the rest of Sunday evening and Brian Matthew's Sound of the 60s haven't been touched. :D I'm sure Johnny Walker will find the dreariest music of the 70s to play each week :x, but at least he can't overdose on Springsteen anymore. :!: :)

Saturdays

1.00-3.00pm Pick Of The Pops presented by Dale Winton
Dale moves to Saturdays as he counts down classic tracks from the charts of the Sixties, Seventies, Eighties and Nineties.

3.00-6.00pm Dermot O'Leary
Dermot's show moves back one hour to 3.00pm and continues to feature live sessions from up-and-coming and established artists, celebrity interviews and music.

6.00-8.00pm Going Out with Alan Carr (from 25 April)
Comedian Alan Carr eases listeners into Saturday nights with a new highly interactive show featuring music and lively conversation. Alan is joined each week by Emma Forbes and together they invite listeners to call in to discuss their Saturday night plans.

8.00-10.00pm Paul Gambaccini with America's Greatest Hits
Paul moves to the heart of Saturday night, playing America's greatest hits from the US charts of the week and the past five decades.

10.00-11.00pm D.o.c.umentary slot
The Saturday night music d.o.c.u.mentary slot moves to the later time.

Sundays

1.00-3.00pm Elaine Paige On Sunday
Sundays see Elaine Paige on Sunday extended by 30 minutes. This highly popular show features non-stop show tunes, movie soundtracks and interviews with the biggest names in theatreland. The newly extended show kicks off on 5 April with an Abba special which sees Elaine reunited with Benny and Bjorn.

3.00-5.00pm Johnnie Walker's Sounds Of The 70s
The legendary Johnnie Walker plays classic tracks from the Seventies.

5.00-7.00pm Paul O'Grady On The Wireless
Paul O'Grady presents a new show for Sunday teatime bursting with character and using unique features designed to interact with his listeners around the UK. Celebrating what's great about Britain and its people, the show's features include Thank You, where Paul invites listeners to tell him about the people who have done something to make their lives better, and a monthly competition, Tea For Two On 2, where a listener can win tea with Paul and the team.

7.00-8.30pm Alan Titchmarsh with Melodies For You
Alan moves to a slightly later time, presenting popular and classical music from Wagner to Mantovani; The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to Gilbert and Sullivan.

I read it on Teletext yesterday :) virtually the same schedule with a couple of changes, but they are finding it hard to fill the 5-7pm slot Ed Stewart had...........................he still should be there  :) his 2 hours were very entertaining, with some great music. (Unlike JW).

What is Teletext Robert? Yes, they are having a problem with that 5:00 pm time. Clearly they realised that Johnny Walker was a disaster at that time and didn't fit on a Sunday. We can hope that his 70s show will be more upbeat.

I've never seen Teletext. But I'm not the right person to ask. I still have an analog TV, which won't work starting on the 12th of June. :( I have a convertor box and antenna ready for the digital conversion. I don't have cable or satellite or Tivo or anything like that.

I vow to never pay for TV unless it's a BBC license fee.

Always nice for Alan to play Matt Monro. But I really must ask him for one of the rarer tracks.

:?: Wasn't that yodelling song (immediately after Born Free) incredible? Alan was so funny with his comments. Radio 2 is truly unique: anything from an vintage yodeler to Iron Maiden.

Right now, he's playing Why Do I Love You from Showboat. He's played it before, but each time it's so wonderful to hear. :)

We agree with you Paul. The Radio 2 presenters bar David Jacobs do seem to stick to "Born Free" and "On Days like These "
David is more familiar with Matt's music so plays a wider selection of his songs.
We do like Alan's programme, also his regular Afternoon TV shows.
