Hello all. I was checking on the Internet yesterday, and found out that the fabulous dancer from all those lovely musicals Cyd Charisse and her husband, the singer/actor Tony Martin are still going strong after all these years of marriage. Tony Martin's first film appearance was in the Fred and Ginger musical "Follow The Fleet" in 1937, a film I really love.

Cyd Charisse was born in 1921, making her 85 years young, and amazingly Tony Martin was born in 1912, which makes him an unbelievable 94. They are still together after all time this, which is quite unusual for a showbusiness couple. Cyd Charisse had been married previously, before she married Tony Martin.

Does anyone know of any other long lasting "showbiz" marriages, they can tell us about, as I think it would be fascinating for us (well me) to know information like that.

Well Perry Como and his wife Roselle were married for 65 years, pretty inusual and rare in the showbiz profession.
Theirs What a was a perfect marriage and Perry was devastated when Roselle passed away.
He said, some years ago, Roselle and I have always been stay-at-home happy with ourselves and one another.
I worked with the world's greatest talents and then went home to the world's greatest woman. Iwould never had risked doing anything that might have hurt Roselle.
People will find this hard to believe but in all our years together Roselle and I have never had a rocky period. I would have Thirteen weeks off and would pack up the family and drive to some mountain retreat and just fish all day. I loved it and I needed it.
What a star !!!

Thank's for that Lena and Harry, Perry must have loved his wife dearly. Do you know of any other showbiz couples who are still together ala Cyd and Tony.

Well another long lasting marriage was between Bob Hope one of the greatest comediennes in the showbusiness world and his wife Dolores Reade. And their marriage lasted and suited them both perfectly.
They were married for Sixty Nine years up until Bob's death in 2,003.
Of course it didn't mean that all marriages that lasted that long were absolutely perfect and didn't have rocky times as the records and media have informed us. Not all like Perry Como's, but we all know what the media is about.

Hi Lena and Harry, Mariana44 and all. I too was thinking about Bob Hope's long marriage, but I did not know his wife's name. But it's great that these couples can stay married for many many years, even with a few up's and down's along the way, which we all have anyway.

You are also right about the media. They try to find any grubby story they can lay their greasy mitts on, just to sell a few extra newspapers, magazines etc.. they are despicable sometimes. They do not think about a persons feelings, do they. The newspaper editor who decided to printed the photograph of Princess Diana last week is absolutely deplorable. They make me so angry When Diana passed away I was in shock for many days, as it was a complete shock to everyone at the time, as she seemed such a lovely person. Robert--that was such a lovely posting from you and I agre with every word you say. Not only the editor who decided to print the photo of Princess Diana, but also the person who took the original photo are beyond contempt. I loved Prince Harrys comment--when he said that as his mother always protected them, they would now protect her.

Whether we will ever know the whole truth about what happened that fateful night is debatable. I know there are 2 schools of thought on this issue, but I'm with you all the way on this one!!!

But so much good could have been done with the money raised in Princess Dianas Memory--but what have we got---a broken-down fountain that is never working.

We need more good news in the papers--good deeds, happy tales. Stories to make us smile.

Nice posts from you both, Robert and Marian.
We have been hearing stories about singers, musicians, actors e.t.c for years and reading magazines and newspapers from the gutter press about their individual lives. Mostly raking up any piece of dirt that they can find. Nobody's perfect and as far as all that's concerned, so what, we are only interested in the pleasure that we get from their talent, and how these artists have enriched our lives. On the Diana story, we also find it hard to believe that someone could stoop so low as to print those pictures of Diana as she lay dying.
Hence the old adage that Money Is The Root Of All Evil, and what we find so hard to believe is that this greed overrules any shameful feelings or pangs of conscience of any hurt that it may cause to the individuals family.
Now the troph that was designed in Diana's memory we could have told them what a waste it was going to be. Within the first half an hour of it being declared open three people had slipped over. We forecast just that

I do like Perry Como, his music is so laid back!

Talking of long standing show business marriages, I read an article a while ago now on Tony Christie. He and his wife, Sue have been married for almost 40 years.

Tony said in the magazine interview that in the early days, back in the 70's, many of the singers were into drugs and groupies etc but he was just happy going home to his wife and kids!

His secret, he said was that he found the right woman from the start and most importantly, he recognised this! What a star he is

It is nice to read something positive isn't it? Many of the newspapers/magazines only print the bad and not the good in things.

I think that once a week ALL national newspapers should have a day set a side for ONLY good stories......maybe we could call it "feel good Friday" or something along those lines.

Hilary that's another nice stort about Tony Christie.
Vince Hill and his wife Annie also have been happily married for 47 years. Vince another great singer and lovely personality.
You are right Hilary we do need to read happier stories, but theirs certainly nothing like that these past few days.

Isn't Tommy Steele another singer who married young, and has been with his wife many , many years?? Was her name Annie, also??

Hi all--I have managed to think of another 2 Longlasting and happy showbiz marriages--during another sleepless night due to the heat !!

These are not quite as longlasting as the previous ones mentioned, because basically--they are not as old yet.!

First is Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme---not sure how long, but it must be over 40 years, as they have been singing together for 46 years.

And then, another one of my faves Neil Sedaka and his lovely Leba, who have been married 44 years. They are now proud grandparents to toddler twin girls, and a baby boy.

Their daughter Dara is a gifted singer too, and has sung many duets with her dad---my favourite , being-"Should have never let you go".


Dara has made only 2 solo cd's [as far as I know]. For some crazy reason , these cd's were only released in the Japanese Market. I was able to get the most recent [about 10 years ago], via a Chinese friend of mine, living in San Francisco, who had contacts with a dealer in Japan !!
