Sad loss of Steve Irwin

Post by diane » Mon Sep 04, 2006 10:31 am

Steve Irwin, the Australian TV personality and conservationist known as the Crocodile Hunter, was killed today, Monday by a stingray barb to the heart during a diving expedition, what a shock that was and so very sad, he leaves a wife Terri and two small children.
old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

Hi Diane--yes, I have been watching this on TV a short while ago. My husband used to love watching his programmes--with the crocodiles and snakes-and of course I watched too. He really was a truly charismatic character. The strange thing is that he was killed by a Stingray, which are not normally aggressive, so the TV reporter said. But as his father said--he died doing what he loved doing most.

Yes we've watched him many times on TV and have been amazed at his
fearless escapades and encounters with animals, reptiles etc
Tragic and very sad news.

Hello all. Steve Irwin seemed like a really nice bloke, with a great sense of fun and humour. He obviously LOVED the job he was doing.

My 16 year old son is totally shocked, as Steve was his idol, he loves watching all the animal programmes on TV, he never misses any. Steve was his absolute hero. He likes animals so much that he starts a 2 year Animal Management course at Bishop Burton College, next week.

These are for Steve Irwin

Sad Loss

It is such a shame that Steve was cut down in the prime of his life and by a freak accident. Although to many he was loud and over the top, that is the way he appealed to children of this modern world. It got him noticed not only allowing him to do what he loved but through his work he has done more for animal conservation than anyone I can think of - he will be sadly missed and my thoughts go to his family at this very difficult time.

Robert it's nice to hear of anyone caring enough to want to look for a career in animal welfare.
Particularly when just recently we have read some unbelievable stories of cruelty to animals. Cruelty that simply beggars belief.
So good for your son Robert :)

Very sad loss. A great character and a great naturalist and educator too.
Immenseley knowledgeable of his subject which enabled him to take such huge risks and such a tragedy that he's now no longer with us. His tv shows were fascinating viewing and he will be undoubtedly be much missed - especially by his young family of course.
Very sad day
