I received my Special Reserve Set from Amazon.com/uk 2 days ago after ordering it 4 days earlier.
I played the CD in my car stereo 2 hours later, and my personal favorites are "How Deep Is the Ocean" & "Star Eyes".
One of Alan Dale's best recordings from 1952 was "Laugh Clown Laugh" and the 1st Track on Matt's CD "Vesti La Giubba" with English Lyrics is the same song, so I wonder if Matt had heard Alan Dale's Coral Recording since this was the only version of "I Pagliacci". Alan Dale version is much more powerful as he had a big voice, but Matt's vocals are remarkable and more intimate due to minimal accompaniment.
Please add your favorites from this rarest of Matt's early recordings.......... Henry

My favourite is "Star Eyes"--i have it on an a [very] old Johnny Mathis recording, but never heard it anywhere else-so I was hoping it was the same "Star Eyes"---and it is. Just beautiful.

Have to agree with this one "Star Eyes is our favourite track suit's Matt's voice so perfectly.

Also, If you haven't heard Sarah Vaughan sing this number, you haven't lived

I had never heard Star Eyes before and didn't know of any other recordings.

Can you please post who composed the song as we (and the MCPS who are in charge of such things) hadn't got a clue!!

This hopefully can be rectified in future.

For me it has to be the Camay advert. 22 years to get hold of or was it 23 but I just love the fact that we have it now.

THE ONLY TROUBLE WITH THE CAMAY AD WAS TOO MUCH ANNOUNCER AND NOT ENOUGH OF MATT. HIS PART WAS BEAUTIFUL THOUGH

"STAR EYES" came from a 1943 film, called--improbably "I DOOD IT".[yes that is 2 o's ]

It was written by Don Raye and Gene De Paul.

I had noticed that no composer was listed, which quite surprised me,
but I did not want you to think I was being cheeky, by telling you the composer---but as you asked...........

That's great - The UK Publishing rights company (MCPS) had no record of the song and oddly an internet search came up with nothing either so that's why it was marked 'Unknown'

Thanks for the info we can rectify this now should the special edition go to a second print run.

I am glad I was able to provide this information--that is a first for me !!!

I have the DVD of I DOOD IT starring ............Eleanor Powell and Red Skelton from 1943 ..........."I Dood It" was a catchphrase of Red Skeltons .............the film contains Ellies famous lasoo scene

That is interesting Robert--who sings "Star eyes" in the film ?

With a little investigating I found "musical interludes" in the film were provided by Jimmy Dorsey and his Orchestra. Helen O' Connell, big band singer from the forties, was also in the film playing herself, but there is also mention that there is some "beauteous singing" by Lena Horne.

My information is that it was sung by Bob Eberly and Kitty Kallen--but not sure if that was part of the film. The name Kitty Kallen sounds familiar, but not Bob Eberly.
