Paperback Book Launch / 25th Anniversary Event

Post by paul jh » Fri May 21, 2010 1:13 am

I had a difficult time reading the May news as the sentences went very long across the screen and I had to keep scrolling. But I did read the exciting news of the paperback coming out in time for Christmas and Hanukkah shopping.

I would be interested in attending a paperback book launch / 25th anniversary event if there's plenty of advance notice. I don't have any real exciting suggestions though. I always enjoy hearing rare Matt Monro tracks and perhaps Michele, forum members, and other fans could read their favourite parts of The Singer's Singer. At the last Fans Reunited, the trivia contest was a big hit, so perhaps we could try it again. We could also have a Matt Monro sing-along or karaoke -- but that might be too corny. Or we could form a Matt Monro Choir and perform his songs at Piccadilly Circus or Leicester Square. Okay, I will stop now with my suggestions! :) :D

All right, here's one more: let's rent the Routemaster Bus and play Matt Monro tracks loudly and tour London and especially focus on Shoreditch, Abbey Road, Tin Pan Alley, and the other significant places in Matt Monro's life.

 There really should be a London street renamed as the Matt Monro Avenue. I was in Steubenville yesterday and there is a Dean Martin Highway. So that made me think there needs to be a road named after Matt Monro. :!:

There are some good suggestions there Paul. I've never been busking before but if that regular guy there in the tartan kilt playing those b....y bagpipes can get away with what he gets away with there's hope for us all. :D :D

I agree with L&H Paul, these are inspired suggestions.
Put me down for a couple of Matt Monro numbers
at the karaoke. In all modesty, many moons ago I won a pub talent
contest with my version of My Kind of Girl, in the key of F,
which was also Matt's key. Nowadays I tend to do my singing in Ireland
when I'm there on holiday, and it is always with an immense
feeling of pride and nostalgia that I introduce a Matt Monro song.
Also I wonder whether there is a mews in Shoreditch ripe for re-naming?

Paperback Book Launch / 25th Anniversary Event

Post by Michele Monro » Sat May 22, 2010 8:27 pm

Sorry to say that the publishers have just informed me that the book is selling very well and as such they want to capitalise of the gift Christmas market and bring the paperback out in February. Nothing is set in stone yet but it seems more than likely. I still want to do a special event but might have to make it next year. Not sure - let me know your thoughts.

Michele -- That is great news that the publisher is excited about the excellent sales of the hardcover. This is a direct result of your hard work promoting the book and music of Matt Monro. You will continue to have a busy year ahead for you.

I think a paperback launch in February would be perfect. I would expect that many books never get a paperback issued, so this will an accomplishment to celebrate.

A special event any time sounds good to me--maybe after Christmas could make it easier for more people to be there.

We agree. A special event any time would be good for us. As long as we don't get the snowfall we had this year!

Regarding 25th aniversary
Would it be a good idea to have a relaxed celebration of Matt's life, hosted by the family and perhaps Matt Jnr could sing a few songs. I am sure this would attract agood responce and with a charge to enter finance itself. perhaps fan club members have first refusal of tickets.
