Hope you get to hear the Matt Jnr interview before you leave Paul. Anyway, enjoy your flight and we'll hopefully, all be seeing you soon. When do you arrive in the U.K?

I found the David Allen show listed for Radio Solent. I'm listening to Matt Monro Jnr's interview now. His favourite song changes frequently. A few months ago on Eric Hall it was Autumn Leaves, on the last Eric Hall interview it was Portrait Of My Love, and during this interview it was Softly As I Leave You. I guess, like all of us, he has many favourites. It's interesting that From Russia With Love was voted the top James Bond theme in some poll. I agree!

I arrive in London early on Friday morning, Marian. At least I hope so. They are predicting high winds and thunderstorms for Washington on Thursday, so my flight will be likely delayed (as it usually is).

Hope to see everyone on Monday afternoon and evening!

Bond

Post by Michele Monro » Thu Nov 16, 2006 11:47 am

Paul, you might be able to catch the special showing on TV on Saturday night at 9.25pm. Channel 4 are showing a two hour special on "James Bond's Greatest Hits" featuring all of us.

Safe flight, see you Monday.

Thanks for the reminder Michele! I did watch the James Bond TV programme on Saturday night. This show was perfect for me as I love countdowns of songs. I even wrote them down and will quiz my co-workers on the top 10 songs. Of course I feel that From Russia With Love is the best James Bond song, but I can understand why Goldfinger was #1. It's a classic and synonymous with James Bond. But Live And Let Die was too high at #3.

Favourite Song

Post by Michele Monro » Thu Nov 23, 2006 1:38 am

I notice that Paul noted that Matt Jnr changed his comment on what his favourite song was from one radio show to another.

I’m often asked what my favourite song is, and this is not actually an easy question for me as my response changes all the time depending on my mood. To me my father’s songs are like close intimate friends, something I grew up with. Some I fell in love with instantly and some I learnt to love over time, some are passionate, some sad and some are breezy, bright and uplifting. I know them really well, they have seen me through my private nightmares, my highs and lows, my reveries and my demons. They are always there for me whether I want them or not but invariably they will elevate me to a better place. They take me to a wonderland of imagination and sometimes I can quite easily live there for a while and when reality hits, I’m better for the song I’ve heard.

A song is as changeable as my disposition and that is why my answer varies from day to day.

Hello Michele

Your Father's music was a comfort to me Michele on my long journey home, after the wonderful event on Monday. I am not a singer, but I did my best to sing-along.. :)

Warm Regards
Angela

I can quite understand Michele, how yours and Matt Jnr's favourite songs of your dad's, can often change with the ups and downs of everyday life.
You are both so fortunate to have such a wealth of his fabulous music to cheer and lift you whenever you need it - and it works for us too! :D :D
It is wonderful that he is still with us all, with his magnificent repertoire of music, and always will be.

Marian.

I am flying to Hong Kong for my holidays on Tuesday and although I have many favourite singers like Dame Shirley Veronica Bassey, Barbra Joan Streisand, Jack Jones, Liza May Minnelli, Johnny Mathis and Matt Monro, it is always my Matt Monro CDs that I pack for a long flight with my noise-cancelling travel headphones.

There is something timeless, soothing and classy about Matt Monro's singing and diction that guarantees a perfect flight where I am concerned.

Even if there are delayed flights or lost luggage which I hope won't happen on this holiday, Matt Monro's voice always lifts my spirits and makes every setback that much more bearable.

Have a nice holiday, Terence. Hong Kong is one of my favourite places.

I agree with you ... Matt Monro's music is perfect for a vacation. I always take Matt Monro's This Is The Life and Here's To My Lady on the QE2.

I hope you have a chance to visit the excellent HMVs in Hong Kong. I spent many hours there five years ago. And the prices were excellent. I got the very best Eternal compilation there.

If it's not too much trouble, could you let us know what Matt Monro CDs are in stock at the HMVs in Hong Kong? Thank you.

Hi Paul

Glad we both like Hong Kong!

Yes I will go to every branch of HMV there including the new one at Admiralty.

What I am looking for are special Asian compilations of my favourite singers. These are exclusive to Asia and contain some rare songs.Matt Monro has one specially compiled for his fans in Asia but the song selection is not as good as it would be if compiled by Michele. I hope to find the 3 Johnny Mathis CDs compiled in Japan which I saw a few years ago for a special person living in Paddock Wood.

Hi Terence--I have never been to Hong Kong-but it is one place I would love to go! The thought of those big record stores over there is just so tempting. I have managed to buy a couple of Japanese imports at HMV in London--Paul Williams, I recall-plus some of Lea Salonga over the Internet--but so expensive. I have never seen any Japanese CD's of JM, I have to say. And unless you know anyone else living in this small Kentish Village, then I could be in for a special treat!!!!

Have a wonderful holiday in Hong Kong. We will miss you.

Hi Terence, Hope you find all those treasures that you are searching for in those HMV stores in Hong Kong. We almost pack nightclothes when we visit ours.
There's also a lot of to and fro- ing goes on around Paddock Wood Terence and it's not just Harry and Chloe.
Talking of Hong Kong has reminded us of a verse to a well known song.  if nobody guesses it meantime,we can put that one on next. :) :)
Have a wonderful holiday Terence, most important of all , a safe one
