Chesterfield - Winding Wheel...

Thursday Novemebr 30th 2006, Winding Wheel, Chesterfield - It was everything and more, honestly.
There were times during the performance when I actually forgot it was Matt Jnr. I didn't have the privilege of seeing Matt Monro perform live (as I am only 29 years young), however I have seen many TV appearances. Matt Jnr, looks and sounds like his father in so many ways. Whether intentional or not, even down to the smallest details of mic technique (gently cradling it) to the posture and diction. I could see that Matt Jnr really wanted to do this for his father. I am in no way qualified to say this, but he has done him proud. 'Softly As I Leave You', 'Born Free' and 'My Way' were as perfect as they could be. 'My Way' is always a difficult song for me to listen too as it was played at my Grandfathers funeral 2 years ago. You can't exactly call me a 'soft' guy, but I must admit I had to cover my eyes while he sang it.
Matt Jnr is a talented performer in his own right. A hint of the style of music from the new album shows this. Matt Monro was a great entertainer and his name and music will continue to be heard, remembered and inspired for many many years to come. I wish Matt Jnr the sincerest of best wishes for his future.
Many thanks and all the best,
Ernie.
