When is "Rare Monro" going to be released? Will it be EMI?

Where can I find "Birth of the Blues"? When was it recorded - -whose arrangement?

Many thanks, as ever.

Cheers,

Peter

Hi All

Can I tag this comment into this forum?
I love 'You've Got Possibilities', absolutely love it.
It's whole demeanour is upbeat, if not the pace, and therefore i hope it qualifies fpr this section.

I think my recently aquired two-for 'Here's To My Lady..' is a cracking CD, I'm a huge fan of all the tracks.

No one can sing swing music better than Matt Monro. I like all of his up tempo songs, as well as the ballads of course. I'm surprised no one has mentioned "As Long As I'm Singing". Just fabulous!

Hi Lena & Harry

"Sweet Talkin Hannah" is a great track, do you think there is anyone around writing music as good as this currently?
Can I also ask you if you listen to Matt on CD, or do you have his music on Vinyl?
In fact that is a question for anyone out there?
Does anyone play Matt Monro albums using Vinyl or are we all digitised? :?
The reason I ask is that a friend at work lent me Matt on Vinyl, complete with the occassional crackle and blip, in mono also, but by gum it sounded wonderfully warm.

We have several of Matt's albums on vinyl Gray, as well as an ever growing CD collection.
It's nice to still play the old LPs though, they have a kind of magic all their own.

We have Matt on some vinyl LPs and agree with Marian that , apart from the obvious size to the CD they do seem to have something special in comparison.
We have a huge collection of vinyl and know that sadly one day we shall have to get around to disposing of them.
As far as composers of good songs these days Gray, it seems that there are so many songwriters around now, many singing their own songs and waiting to be heard and snapped up to become a bigee. Many good songs perhaps being missed.
What are they looking for today ??It can't be easy, when judges such as Simon Cowell who often doesn't recognise a well known hit song, and describe an entrants song,( that we have thought a decent ballad and pleasantly sung,} as gooey,,, an upbeat number as useless,
Songwriters from the past knew that it was sentiment and ballads or patriotic type of songs that would go down well, had perhaps more choice. so it's probably tough today for songwriters.

No need to bin your vinyl L.Ps the can be recorded onto your PC with a line in lead and the right software. I got the details of this with my Creative Zen MP3 player instructions. Or there is a record player that you can buy, which connects to the PC. I have seen that advertised in various magazines, such as the Radio Times. :D

Hi All

Thanks for replying, I'm sure the talent is there, but agree with you Lena & Harry that tunnel vision and market forces probably mean are not allowed to be heard.
I have a huge collection of vinyl also, most of it in the attic, as it just takes up too much space, but I miss the sound of the stylus clicking into a grove when you play a record!
CD's just don't have the same appeal!
