Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
The 'new' Shirley Bassey 5 CD THE EMI/UA YEARS 1959-1979.
Mainly bought it for her versions of the beautiful 'If he walked into my life'
and 'If I never sing another song'.There are obviously some great songs on it
but I found the singing really harsh despite the re-mastering.
Has anybody else bought it?

I would expect Terence to have that cd, as our exert on the Dame-but I do not have that one. Her voice changed quite a lot from the early days-maybe she had a vocal coach ? Or it just matured with age.

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Listening to String of Pearls at the moment
there is a tune by the Savoy Orpheans featuring Julie Dawn.........is this the same Julie Dawn who had a late night slot on the radio in the 70's/80's a slot for "romantics" - she had a rich smooth husky voice ?

I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Currently listening to a compilation "70s Dinner Party" and rediscovering a few songs that I forgot I liked, and still do: anyone remember "From New York to L.A." by Patsy Gallant (1976)? I loved this when it was out originally bit I don't think I'd heard it since the 70s - until now. Also "Sky High" by Jigsaw, another one hit wonder: good track. Others include "Dancing In the City" by Marshall Hain, and the annoying "Lucky Stars" by Dean Friedman and Denise Marsas; I remember you couldn't escape this track in the 70s - it seemed to be on the radio all the time. Tim Rice described it as the worst song ever recorded - and he wasn't far off.

Jon--Yes I remember those tracks--also loved from New York to La---plus I must be the only person in the world who loves "Lucky Star" by Dean Friedman and Denise Marceau.-- in fact, I love all of Dean Friedman's music and have all his cds--he is more talented than people give him credit for.

Hi Marian
Interesting that you have all Dean Friedman's records. Did he have any other well-known hits? I can't think of any. "Lucky Stars" is one of those cheesy songs that are now called, I believe, Guilty Pleasures.
I was on YouTube the other day and see that they have posted up lots of clips from a 1981 programme that Johnny Mathis did in which he was interviewed by Noel Edmonds and sang various songs. I remember seeing this when it was originally transmitted and didn't expect to ever see it again; it stands up rather well.

I too liked Lucky Stars very much, Marian
.............Dean also had hits with Lydia and Vincent, two beautiful songs
.....................I'm listening to a popular 90's group tonight......the Lightning Seeds with their successful CD Jolification
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
I am pretty sure that Dean did not write or sing "Vincent"--I believe that was Don Mcclean--I'm glad I am not the only one to like "Lucky Star"--perhaps Robert, we are the only 2 people in the world who like it--no, that cannot be right--it was quite a hit at the time. "Lydia" is not actually my favourite of his songs, I have to say.
