I've just been reading that Dame Shirley has returned to the recording studio for the first time since 2003. Her new single, "The Living Tree" is set for U.K. release on the 16th of April, on the Lock, Stock and Barrel label, to be followed two weeks later by an album of the same name.
This will feature re-mixes of Shirley Bassey's self-owned catalogue, plus new recordings "Slave to the Rhythm" and "I Will Survive".

Hi Marian,
And I think with the right amount of plays 'The Living Tree' could make the top 40! It's a brilliant song with a very memorable lyric. I've seen the video somewhere! I think if you tap in www.myspace/shirleybassey.com you may see her.
Hope all well?

The Living Tree
I have just pre-ordered this CD single. All the Bassey fans are keeping their fingers crossed that it will be a no. 1 hit for her at the age of 70!
It's true that sometimes she oversings and shouts. This is fine for her dramatic stage performances as her oversinging seems to make sense coupled with her dramatic gestures. In the recording studio, I like my Bassey recordings a bit subdued and subtle. The last time this happened was a long time ago with the album "You Take My Heart Away". After that, she hardened her voice, overdramatised her phrasing and sang in the recording studio pretty much the same way she did live. A particularly unlistenable album was "Shirley Bassey Sings The Songs Of Andrew Lloyd Webber". I thought she was going to drown the cat the way she shouted through "Memory". In recent years, she has bounced back with good singing in catchy songs like La Passione, History Repeating & The Rhythm Divine all of which should have been bigger hits in the UK. Yes.....I would like her to go to no. 1 this year. That would be a great chart tribute to a bonafide legend.

According to HMV, the CD single gets released on the 23rd of April. But Chart Refugees website (which is usually correct) lists it for April 30th. So I don't know what is right, but I doubt it will be April 16th.
There are 8 tracks (all different versions/takes on The Living Tree) on the CD single, plus the video. What a bargain for 2.99! And the cover photo is great!

Everyone - Feel free to call me Paul or Jeff. I certainly did get used to Paul at Fans Reunited I. I suggested using Jeff recently because there were so many new forum members named Paul. But they haven't seemed to post very often. And I never seemed to get confused with the Paul who's the great Matt Monro fan who serves as Matt Monro Jnr's driver and right hand man and seller of fine tour merchandise.
Back to Shirley Bassey - If you downloads tracks, please download The Living Tree digital single during the week that the physical single CD gets released (either April 23rd or 30th). That will help it get a good position on the charts!
