Have since found out that "Hadleigh" followed on from the series "Gazette" in which James Hadleigh (Gerald Harper) played a Yorkshire newspaper proprietor. The Gazette was owned by his father.
In the series "Hadleigh," James is now a wealthy Yorkshire landowner, having inherited his father's estate and ownership of The Gazette.
The series ran for 52 x60minute episodes over seven seasons.
Prior to this, Gerald Harper was well known for his role as Adam Adamant,
"an Edwardian crimefighting adventurer"!!

I remember Adam Adamant from the 60s. The surviving episodes (some were wiped) recently came out on DVD. It was the BBC's "reply" to The Avengers but production values were much lower and so it pales by comparison. I also remember Hadleigh but never found it very interesting. Gerald Harper is now in his early seventies and quite recently split from a four-year relationship with actress Sarah Alexander (of "The Worst Week of My Life" fame): she was 29 and he was 71!

Interesting to read your comments about 'Hadleigh' et al. I don't remember them of course as I am only 40 BUT I do remember those 1970s/1980s business based soaps - starting with the Onedein Line, through to Howards Way - including the Brothers, Buccanneer, The Foundation, Triangle etc There was also some weird fashion soap on ITV set in Birmingham and starring Stephanie Beecham - can't remember its name but it had great theme song that I think was released as a single

Ah - but the DVD was being played by other half in another room, so I could only hear the soundtrack! So it was what I was 'listening' to at the time

Belive it or not-Saturday was a lovely day here--I went out, and we were sitting in the garden and it was just beautiful--blue skies, sunny and warm.

I could hardly believe it when I saw the "Trooping of the Colour" on Tv and the torrential rain In London-only 35/40 miles away. I knew 2 friends of mine came down from Edinburgh especially for the "Trooping of the Colour".

My sister in Suffolk was flooded again -for the 3rd time this year. And I know Parts of Yorkshire have been badly hit. I hope summer comes quickly for you all.

From 1 am early hours on Friday until 1pm on Friday afternoon (12 hours) the rain was constant and torrential. It sounded like hailstones on my bedroom window ALL NIGHT   it was cloudy with heavy showers ALL weekend   the sun has popped out this afternoon, but not for long.

That sounds awful Robert--I do not know what has happened to "Flaming June"---maybe we will have "Flaming July" --does Wimbledon start this week?

It either pours with rain all the time--or 100 degrees on centre court !!
