It's a dreadful day here in London. Cold, windy. and raining
The Luton Carnival that was to take have taken place has been cancelled, and many more events the same we imagine.

Thanks Marian,
You too! When I was running the mile in 4mins 7secs in the mid 1960s I remember running in Caversham Park - I think that's the name? I was 2nd that lovely Reading evening and the pace-maker over the 1st lap was Stan Eldon, who ran for Britain many times all those years ago. I remember getting to the bell 1 yard behind the Welsh Champion and at the finish I was still 1 yard behind for 2nd place - I ran 4mins 11secs that night - great memories! Incidentally Eldon was known as the 'flying cop' in those days - I wonder if he still lives around the Reading area? Lovely to keep in touch with you and the Forum!

Wow! you were a fast mover in those days Bill!!!!
I remember Roger Bannister running the first four minute mile, and what a tremendous effort it was for him back then. I remember Stan Eldon too, but I don't know if he lives around Reading now.
Caversham Park is still there though! Lots of the BBC Archives are kept there.

Marian thanks for that info on Stan Eldon - yes I now remember he had a Sports Shop in your area. But he was a great runner and ran at the White City, London on many occasions. On that mile race in Reading he was 'slightly' over the top from his International days, and only took us through the 1st lap!

Yes dear old Roger Bannister! 3mins59.4secs always etched in my mind! I should remember it because I'm a Vice-President of the British Milers' Club!! I was invited to a dinner in Oxford some years ago and Roger was on the top table! I had an old web site some years ago when I was selling magnetic bracelets etc - I think it's still 'out there' and in it you'll see a photo of me with Sir Roger and Lady B. The site was www.wpjbenn.supanet.com - after all this time it may have been erased!
I'm sure you've all plugged into youtube? A friend informed me of the vast amount of Dean Martin clips there are on youtube, and I must admit they are great! So, after 'Dino' I tapped in 'Matt Monro Videos' and low and behold there is the Master himself! Very interesting! www.youtube.com then tap in MMV and sit back and enjoy!

We have just seen that Coronation St is to be sponsored by furniture giant Harvey's with a £20 million Two year deal after Cadbury's pulled out 10 months into a Two year contract. It has sponsored the Street since 1996
