I'm a little puzzled about mentioning "A Man and a Woman" was recorded by Matt. He's the first singer mentioned who apparently recorded this song, on the Wikipedia write-up of Jerry Keller. However, I can't find it.
Does anyone know if Matt did, and where I can find it?
Need to know if it's the same doleful song that Jon refers to.

Yes Marian, Matt did sing "A Man and a Woman", it is featured on the "Time For Love"cd, I think it may have been originally recorded on the "Invitation To The Movies" lp, but I am not 100% sure on this.

Nat King Cole is my third favourite male singer of all time and That Sunday That Summer is my #1 NKC song. I believe I already mentioned that I bought the EMI CD twofer of My Fair Lady and Those Lazy Crazy Days Of Summer last summer at the Southampton HMV. I took it onto the QE2. I thought I was all alone on the promenade deck and I was blissfully singing along with That Sunday That Summer. People were actually listening to me! Normally I'm out there playing and singing along (quietly) to Matt Monro.

Nat King Cole recorded so many lovely songs, but That Sunday That Summer is simply beautiful and precious. Other favourites are Too Young, Send For Me, Ramblin' Rose, Orange Colored Sky, Nature Boy, Unforgettable, Answer Me My Love, Stardust, and L-O-V-E.

I like the song A Man And A Woman --- especially as an instrumental. I'm not sure I've heard Matt Monro's version. (I expect that Robert will tell me that it is on The Singer's Singer 4 CD set.)

Right now, I'm listening to Editors's new music on their website. Their new album is released in the US on the 17th of July and they will appear in Washington on the 4th of September. I may have to go see them. This may be the kind of group you like, Jon. Any opinions anyone?

No, it's not on "The Singer's Singer" Paul. I already looked yesterday, but as John said it is on Matt's album "A Time for Love".

Are there 2 songs called "A man and a woman " as the one I am thinking of is a really nice song--and not at all "doleful" ??

The song has a rather catchy tune with an in between Cha Cha and rumba beat.  .......
When hearts are passing in the night in the lonely night.
Then they must hold each other tight oh so very tight.
And take a chance that in the light in tomorrows light.
They'll stay together so much in love. AAhhhhhhhhhh.

That's what I was thinking Marian. Which was why I asked earlier. Jon mentioned he dislikes the song because it's depressing, I think that's the word he used anyway. I've still not had time to listen to Matt's song, but as you say, it might be a different song. One is from the film "A Man and a Woman".

Yes Lena and Harry--that is the one that I am thinking of---It could never be called depressing--so maybe Jon is thinking of another song?

Sorry to disappoint you but the song you are all referring to IS the one I meant, and, yes, I still find it depressing. The version that Lena and Harry refer to sounds like a more uptempo version though, so I wonder who this is by, but the more usual version is the one I can't stand. I'm not aware that there is another song of the same name, though there probably is.

Paul, no, I don't like the Editors. I saw them performing at the Live Earth concert on TV at the weekend and wasn't impressed, but I haven't really listened to them all that much. I am quite keen on another group-of-the-moment called The Rakes; they're not all that well known but they did have a minor hit single with a song called 22 Grand Job, something about having a job in the City that paid £22 grand, I think. I've just booked a ticket to see The Manic Street Preachers in Cardiff on 6 December, which I'm really looking forward to.

We clearly have a different view of Nat King Cole too. Oh well. Perhaps we do agree about Nerina Pallot. I know you like her song "Sophia". I bought the CD single of this and found that it has more of a beat to it than the acoustic version, which is actually on her album (which I also have). However the CD single also contains another acoustic track called "Confide in Me" which is much better than anything on the album (apart from "Sophia"). Worth getting.

Spent Sunday buying cut-price CDs in the sales in Virgin Piccadilly Circus. Anyone remember "Breakout" by Swing Out Sister, from the 80s? What a great song. A guilty pleasure methinks. Enjoyed a private dance to it at home (in between Schoenberg's Opus 2 songs, of course).
