Watched The Man With The Golden Voice for the first time tonight after omitting to get it taped for me last time!! Wonderful! Enjoyed every second of it! :D
Fascinating, moving, great to see all the clips some of which i've never seen before and just pure heaven to have an hours worth of that great, great voice. As far as singers go Matt was pure class, a singer with a voice of such fine quality the like of which will never be heard again and it's so pleasing to see programmes like this celebrating his talent and giving him the accoldes he so richly deserves.
Great stuff! :D

We have this on tape too, and have watched it so many times, but of course we watched it again this evening, and we have already had calls from the family who were able to watch it. They all thought it was just wonderful, and YES!! there we both were again in tears, firstly because It was a story of a man with a voice that was unmatchable.
Secondly, we had Matt singing "Softly As I Ieave You " at my mum's funeral two years ago.

Hi all,

Wasn't it wonderful? I got shivers up my back the first time when they started playing 'On Days Like These'. Didn't happen the other day when The Italian Job was on again, as I had to battle with a screaming four year-old to hear it then (not my child! lol)!!

Shame my Mum didn't get to see it this time round - she's just gone off on holiday - I'd told her it was on last week! Ruddy programme schedulers!!! They should get their priorities right!

Hello everyone. Yes I had seen the programme before, but I was obviously glued to the TV watching it again tonight. It gets better each time.

My favourite part is when Matt sing's "Walk Away", in colour, just sensational. It sound's so moving and Matt look's absolutely great.

Does anyone know who the bloke is, firstly in the picture with Matt in his bus driver's uniform, while at a recording session for Decca, I believe. He then turn's up again in another photo, when Matt was singing in Hong Kong, early in his career. I think it is the same person.

Finally, does anyone else think that Matt, during his DVD performance "An Evening With Matt Monro", then again during tonight's documentary, near the end when Matt is singing "Softly As I Leave You", that Matt has a look of Bill Clinton.

Just wanted to share, with some other people, these sites are fantastic. I'm a footie fan so just watchin that at the mo, got a bit bored, flicked the channels and hit on the doc about Matt Monro. I was captivated, watched it right to the end, bought the record, listening to it now as I type, had to find the web site. I knew the name cos my mum always told me how fab he was (i didn't know) (who listens to their mum!) Which brings me to probably my fave bit I think his name is Max "I always move my grandads cd's to the front" SUPERB!

Hi Everyone,

Yes it was nice to see the documentary again and even nicer to know that maybe a lot of fans who missed it before also saw it last night.

You never know, maybe there will be a few newer fans looking at the website now and taking part in the forum too.
There were some nice reviews on the documentary in the papers last weekend which was good to see as well.

Just seen the programe,it blew me away, what a voice.
I am 47 and had heard Born Free and From Russia With
Love.and i knew Matt sang them,now i'm kicking myself
for missing out on this brilliant artist for so many years,
this i can easily correct
It was easy to feel the lump in the throat and a tear
getting ready to fall when you heard his wife/daughter/
grandson/and friends speak of there love and admiration
of the man.
I hope the programme brings many fans to your website,
I know his voice will live on and on,a fantastic talent, which
i did not appreciate at the time(to my shame).

Hello Lena and Harry and everyone, and a special welcome to all the new member's who seemed to have joined since the programme was aired last night on TV. It's great to have some new member's on the MM forum, the more the merrier. Let's hope there are still some more to come. That's one of the good thing's about it being on terrestrial TV, a lot more viewer's watching it, and hopefully a lot more MM fan club member's.
As you say in your post Lena and Harry, they ain't seen or heard nothin' yet. :D :D

Hello,

I came across this programme by chance (hate football, locked in a hotel)
and was astounded by this unknown man's voice. Please advise me on a suitable introductory recording that I really should listen to.

What an excellent question, Jar! I don't think I can answer it! Pleased that you chanced upon the great man's work by accident - sometimes that's the way with greatness, isn't it? There are a number of compilations that include some of his best known work - but not all of them include all of my favourites! I'll leave someone else to answer this one!

Hi Jar--I think a good one to start would be the 4 cd set called "The singers singer" For a start there are 100 tracks on there--all of his hits plus many others--you could easily buy just a greatest hits, and another 1 or 2 albums, but you may find that some tracks are repeated.
Obviously , not so, on this set. The 4th cd includes some rare recordings , plus 6 advertising jingles that you will not find anywhere else.

Also a great book that includes a 64 page book written by Michele--loads of rare photos--a super discography. A really great package.

My one is labelled "de luxe edition" so I am not sure if all versions are the same.

Anyway, a big welcome to "The Forum"--the tv programme on BBC, has made many more people aware of how great Matt was.
