Julie Andrews and a few other's have sung this song Robert, but much better sung by a male voice. Matt's the best of them all by far. :) :)

Just listened in full to Friday Night is Music Night :) my only wish was that it was Matt singing every song there in person, now that would have been truly awesome..................the other singers gave it their best shots..........but Matt can sing them all under the table :) .........a few mistakes by Paul Gambaccini, one being Matts birthdate of 1932, when it was actually 1930

PG got it right a the beginning, obviously short term memory loss!
It was a great evening, fantastic atmosphere, very enthusiastic audience,
fabulous singers, wonderful orchestra.
Thanks to everyone involved, it must have taken some arranging, and I think it did Matt justice. :D :D

Yes, it was a great evening. A brilliant orchestra, and all the singers superb.
The theatre was full, the audience enjoying themselves and there we were, us fans sitting in specially reserved seats.
What more could we want. :D :D

I listened to the Matt tribute programme on Friday night and have to say that, while it was enjoyable overall, the singing wasn't that great. The performers were introduced as some of the "leading vocalists of today" but none of them came close to Matt himself and, like Robert, I was kind of left wishing that they'd just play Matt's versions!

I perhaps enjoyed the interview Gambaccini held in the interval with Matt Jnr, Michele and Colin Keyes more than anything else. It was particularly interesting to hear Matt Jnr's comments that he principally remembers his father as just "his Dad" rather than as a star (nice touch) and also that he doesn't try to emulate Matt when he performs but interprets the songs in his own way (witness his rendition on the night of "Portrait of My Love" - quite a bit different to Matt's). Like Robert, too, I thought it was pretty unforgiveable of Gambaccini (who supposedly prides himself on being a music expert) to give Matt's birth year as 1932 and not 1930. So, overall, not bad, but could have been better.
