"Un Toque DE Distincion" LP

Post by hpooch » Wed Apr 27, 2011 4:25 am

These questions may have been answered before about the LP "Un Toque De Distincion" which was Matt's final album in 1982 (Argentina)...
Was this album ever released on CD or will it be in the future?? I could not find Matt's version of "I Write the Songs"(Con Mi Cancion) in English, as "Live In Australia" CD has the English version in portions as part of a medley of "Portrait on My Love" & "Walk Away". Will there be a full-length
version of this song in the near future (Maybe in "The Rarer Monro"CD) ? Also the Spanish version of "I Write the Song" features a rare Choral Background which is rarely heard on Matt's vocals and which uniquely adds to this song... How many other songs by Matt have Choral backing??
.....Not too many, I think Thanks for your reply, Henry

Hi Harry.

Un Toque De Distinction has never been officially released on CD and is one of the few recordings not controlled by EMI but by an american company called SEI corp.

All of the tracks HAVE been issued on iTunes in various forms. The most complete version is called Matt Monro "En Espanol" which included the complete Un Toque as well as the extra track released from these sessions on "Retralto de Matt Monro" in the mid 1980s'

SEI have no plans to issue the recordings on CD i'm afraid.

I Write the Songs was unfortunately never recorded in English by Matt so the Live versions are all we have. The Spanish album multitracks had Orchestral tracks recorded in england and Matt's vocal's were recorded in Miami but ONLY in Spanish.

There are a number of Matt's recording sthat have backing singers (Sarah's Coming Home for instance) but this as far as i'm aware is the ONLY recording with a full choir.

Whilst we can't bring you a full length I Write The Songs there is still pleanty of material for "The Rarer Monro" including some material even we didn't know existed until recently!

Richard

Thanks, Richard.....It's too bad that "I Write the Songs" sung by Matt was never recorded in English, and his live versions were always part of a medley. I'm looking forward to the "Rarer Monro" CD in the near future (Hopefully in early 2012!)

One other thing that occurs to me is that Matt DID record it in english for Radio broadcast - with full orchestra!

However all of these broadcasts are lost.

Frustratingly just last night i was cleaning up a transfer of a radio broadcast of another artist when the announcer said " and our second guest this week is Mr Matt Monro" at which point i heard the first three notes of I write the songs and the tape cuts off!

I have a couple of other fragments from other shows but nothing of good quality or complete.

It's frustrating that nobody seemes to have these even as off air recordings.

Unless somebody out there knows different.......
