I have been listening to Alan Jackson--34 number ones--I only just discovered his music ad love it-i love his voice, and the songs he writes. It amazes me that he is not more popular, as I know he has been singing some time-anyone else know this country singer ?

Hey Mariana! Yes I know Alan Jackson's music and loved it. He was big in late 1990s and early 2000's with the New Country acts like Garth Brooks, but sadly that had died out. He still records though but isn't that popular. Look up Blake Shelton, he's pretty good!
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
I wonder why that is---he has written such great songs--"Where were you when the world stopped turning" after the Twin towers tragedy--such a beautiful song and sentiments---in complete contrast--"It's 5'o clock somewhere"--just love it--"I slipped-and fell in love" "she's got the rhythm -and I got the blues"--loads more--I think he is still recording--one of mine is from 2008. I will check out Blake Shelton.
Quite honestly---Garth Brooks does not do much for me--i know he's a massive name in Us-sold more records than The Beatles etc etc etc--but I just cannot get into him.

Hi Eman--just checked out Amazon for Blake Shelton--lots of stuff on there--I managed to listen to a few "Austin " "same old song"--and I liked what I heard--a really good voice--and some very catchy songs--I ordered one-just called "Blake Shelton"--less than £5.00 incl pp, so I will let you know how I get on with it.
Are there any other lesser known female country singers around that are worth listening to--I love Reba Mcentire and have all her cds, but on the whole, I prefer the men country singers.

I like Alan Jackson too and have several of his cd's along with Vince Gill and Kenny Chesney, there is another one who's name escapes me for the moment so I will get back to you on that.
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
That is great Karl--I really thought that none else had ever heard of Alan Jackson--although when I sent some through to my sister, she knew the name, as he was included on some compilation country cds that she had.
I have a couple of cds by Vince Gill--but I am not too enthusiastic about his voice-I know the name of Kenny Chesney--but I do not think I have heard him sing.

The other singer's name just came to me, George Strait but I also like some of the older stars like Waylon Jennings (have a lot by him), George Jones and Marty Robbins. Waylong Jennings was great I really like him singing Never Been To Spain, I read a book about his life and some pages had me in tears of laughter at some parts. One story in particular
after his show a guy came up to him wanting to fight and he was taller than Waylon so Waylon said something like "You're Bigger Than Me And Will Probably Kick The S**T out of me so why don't we just go and have a drink
- and they did!
I also liked Faron Young!
I miss the Country Music Awards as it's no longer on tv, Vince Gill hosted it ifor years and he has a great personality.
I was in Nashville for a few days some years ago but The Grand Ole Opry is only open a few days a week and my days were no good.
I also have a dvd by Alan Jackson.

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Yes, of course I know George Strait--he is perhaps one of the more well known country singers-I know all the other names---but I always thought that many of them sounded the same. but I like George Strait--was he the singer who sang "Cross My Heart " ??
I also loved the Country Music Awards--I remember the one where Kenny Rogers won for Best Song--"Buy me a rose"---and Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw--I also remember one--many years ago featuring a very new country singer--completely unknown at the time--Shania Twain.
I wonder why they stopped showing it on TV--some of the rubbish stuff on nowadays could go, that's for sure---or the endless repeats.

Hey all. I love Garth Brooks, I actually slept outside to get tickets to his concert back in 1990! LOL. Mariana, check out Miranda Lambert she's Blake Sheton's wife and she is good. I also like "Rascal Flats", "Zac Brown Band". Vince Gill was just so so for me..I liked him but not to the extent of really liking him. I love George Strait also and yes he did do "I Cross My Heart" which was from the film "Pure Country".
Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Thanks Eman-i will check out Miranda Lambert-definately a new name for me--my sister loves Rascall Flatts--I shall have to sk to send me some of their music to listen to.
I did not know that "I cross my heart" came from a film-but it is a great song.

Re: What's In Your CD Player/iPod/MP3/Computer/Hi Fi, Right Now?
Hi Mariana, yes it was from a film. Pretty good story also. Kenny Chesney is just ok for me. He seems to concentrate on trying to be another Jimmy Buffett with his songs about island paradises, boats, drinks. His past album covers up to his newest seem like they are direct rips of Jimmy Buffet's with the beach and all.
