DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
I just heard on the radio, that it is 10 years since Dusty passed away--I cannot believe it is 10 years--Dusty was another cancer sufferer who fought it bravely.
Although her private life was not perfect--her singing was--and still is.
Dusty was just a total one-off---we miss you Dusty !!!

I love Dusty's 'Dusty In Memphis' cd, which I tried vainly to get Paul in the States listening to.
Whilst he is a fan of Dusty, I don't think he was a big fan of this cd.
But she had a terrific voice and I cannot believe it's 10 years since she passed away.
PS I do not listen to Johnnie Walker on a Sunday either, Robert.

Thanks for posting this Marian. I can't believe it's been 10 years. I love her so much and I adore my photo of her and Matt Monro in my dining room. So calming seeing them there in my home. That framed photo will be with me forever.
I just couldn't get into her Dusty In Memphis album. But I love many of her other songs.
I just don't care for the selection of music Johnny Walker plays. I think all of us could present a more interesting programme using our varied collections.

Dusty
One of my best clients, Alan Parker worked with Dusty for years. He is now a top composer for film and tv but used to be a session guitarist.
He did most of Dusty's arrangements in fact. I was working for him on the day he went to her funeral which was a sad day. In fact i'm working for Alan again in about 3 weeks time. He is a great friend now and I am delighted that a song we did together, he will be putting on the web soon with the "Orchard" in New York.
Dusty was a GREAT singer. Almost a soul singer in fact.
ps/ I noticed the mention about Ed Stewart's Sunday programme. I used to send him instant poems and he used to read them out, sometimes within 10 min's on the show :- " Where are you now". Good old Ed'!

I am a fan of "real music".
Music performed by Matt Monro, Frank Sinatra and their piers. I once made an album with Humphrey Lyttelton. I play harmonica. The latest CD " Baz with the Jazz legends" is selling well. ( I sell it via my website)

The BBC?
I have a musician friend who hasn't got a good word to say about the BBC these days. Maybe it's the "changeover" generation thing whereby the older generation / music and people fade into the background? Or perhaps younger people take over the old BBC with their tastes in music being different, I don't know. Humph worked for the Beeb for well over 40 years and had built up a decent following. Years ago, I did a couple of day's work for Spike Milligan in his house near us down the coast at the time. The goon show was cult and had massive audiences, but even that stuff fades away. Nancy Sinatra has to plug her Dad's name constantly to keep the name up there. THE TV is the biggest medium I guess. Prime time programmes spark the interest. Currently Polititions are getting the attention. ( Attention they don't like!) ( Sorry...gone off subject a bit!)
Barry.

Re: DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
Does anyone know if the Dusty Springfield Bulletin is still being printed? I would buy it at HMV at 150 Oxford Street. But I haven't seen it in several years. I got my wonderful photo of Matt Monro and Dusty from that magazine.
Re: DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
Paul the bulletin ceased about two years ago after 20 years, howeve rI am inregular contact with Paul Howes who has conceived a new box set from Dusty that is due for release at the end of October.
The title is Goin' Back and it's 4 cd's 3 dvd's and two hardback books along with some separate pictures. The dvd's includes unreleased Springfields footage and the discs include some new stripped down versions of her hits., not all the hits just some but the track list is impressive.
When I get to Melbourne on almost the last leg of my Australian trip I will meet up with Douggie Reece again who was Dusty's bass player in her band The Echoes.
