Karl, can't say I have. There's just something about Doonican that I like , I guess it's because he has such a comforting voice like Matt. Now that I heard Matt sing "Over The Rainbow" his version of the song has become my favourite. Another person that I like is country singer Jim Reeves.

Hi Mariana, X-Factor is on tonight, wonder what kind of strange lots are going to be on. Yep the judges are Simon, Paula, Nicole and R n B prodcuer L.A. Reid.

Eman -- Were you as disappointed as I was with X-Factor last Wednesday? I missed Thursday. Unfortunately it's more America's Got Talent than American Idol. Not a surprise since it's produced by Simon Cowell. That means an overload of cheese.

I'll watch again tonight, because I've always respected LA Reid, as he's produced some of my favourite songs by Boyz II Men and other artists. Not surprisingly, I agree with him the most.

The Sing Off is so much better. I hope you're watching that.

Eamon our musical tastes definitely change as we get older, I never cared much for Jim Reeves apart from Distant Drums but as you say he is soothing and it makes such a welcome change from the vocal hysterics of many of today's 'stars'.

Over the years I have re-discovered some of the all-time greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington & Sarah Vaughan. It is so great to hear real musicians and a real drummer laying down the beat instead of a drum machine. i went totally over the top with Ella and bought just about half her back catalogue!! Not all on the same day you understand!!!

Paul, yeah I was disappointed in it. Although I liked some of the freak a zoids like Xander Alexander. What a crock. Yet that's why I like to see it is for the weird people like that guy who sold his truck and then WTH was he singing. The Sing Off is much better. I wish though Simon would promote Westlife here in the US. I know they tried before. I was mortified at American Idol, when Rubben Studdard released "Flying Without Wings" as his debut single. I stopped watching after that as a sign of a boycott!! LOL

Karl, I guess as we get older our tastes change. I actually like my Dad's music now but not then, well some of it I did, but not most. Jim Reeves was one that he would play and I would run out of the room screeching..but now that I'm older I appreciate it more. Vocal hysterics, that's a new one as I call it Vocal Gymnastics. My thing is sing the melody straight and don't over emphasis on the "ooos, ahhhs, yeahs" and drag it on for 2 minutes. No wonder there is no such thing anymore as a 3 minute pop song!

Thanks for that Robert, Mary was quite a character and her take-off's on Blossom Dearie were good. I know who Blossom is as she did a song on Dusty and also one on Georgie Fame.

I just noticed Paul's comments about Dusty In Memphis, ok everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as it's fair but the songs are anything but weak instead I think your opinion is - the album was widly acclaimed by her peers - anyone with an ounce of sensitiviy cannot be failed to be moved by her performance on I Can't Make It Alone, the album was released in 1969 and all thse years later that track still gets to me! There are many other great tracks took like So Much Love and Just One Smile, that was what made the album so great as Dusty gave very sensiitive versionsj of the songs she did not go full out as on her big hits

I find the comments most unfair Paul but as I said it's your opinion!

However I am not biased when it comes to Dusty as I and indeed most of the fans find her Living Without Your Love album the weakest thing she ever did, there are some nice songs on it but nothing to really grab you.

We are about to see the last auditions of American x factor tonight-I am quite enjoying it-as always some good, some bad---as they have reduced the age to 12, there are quite a few very young girls on---I liked Drew aged 14, who sang Justin Bieber.

Buddy has a CD coming out on 17th of October. :)
Lezlie is aN excellent singer too. Just playing her great recording of FEVER . :)
