Re: Fabulous New Bassey CD Shelved
I knew nothing of this but it sounded like a really good release, I wonder if it will be released if they rectify the problem?

Re: Fabulous New Bassey CD Shelved
Karl, the problem is Dame Shirley Bassey blocking this release.
How do you rectify that?

It was a goodie - I remastered it!
Oh well!

Richard, all your hard work down the drain?
Who's responsible for the cover by the way?
Perhaps if she's billed as Dame Shirley Bassey as in her recent CDs instead of simply Shirley, she will change her mind. But don't ever call her Shirl. She hates being called that.

Terence surely she can't object to everythng on the cd, why don't they just remove what's bugging her, whateer it is?

Re: Fabulous New Bassey CD Shelved
Good idea Karl but it may be the unreleased tracks that is bugging her. I have heard one of them RUNAWAY and she sounds horrible on it.
Re: Fabulous New Bassey CD Shelved
I like Shirley but she sounds horrible on several tracks that have been released especially on her earlier United Artists albums, she shouts more than sings on some of the songs!
It's too bad she didn't voice her objections before Richard did all that work!

Karl, you may be talking about her expressive over-the-top versions of The Sound Of Music & A Time For Us (the gentle love theme from Romeo & Juliet) which never fail to startle my friends! One even asked who the hysterical singer was!

Terence I can't remember the album, it's one of the BGO releases with two of her jold albums, I have them all.
Shirley is great at many songs, her version of For All We Know & Living are exceptional as is Reach For The Stars and Far Away. I also like her old Philips recordings The Wayward Wind etc, infact I play those cd's frequently.
I once read Shirley saying she is not a belter, excuse me but if anyone is a belter it's Shirley Bassey.

The 2 songs are from "I've Got A Song For You" and "This Is My Life", 2 of the Dame's most over-the-top albums on United Artists. In the studio, she is more nuanced and mellow (think her version of Janis Ian's Jesse) but she tackled the songs in these 2 early UA albums as if she was singing them live before an audience. When the Dame is singing before a live audience, she is very dynamic.

Her fans are considering starting a petition to send to her lawyers. I hope Richard's work will not be in vain. This is the first time he has remastered Shirley Bassey's recordings.
Do you remember when she blocked "Bassey Sings Bond" an album in which she sang all the Bond theme songs? I managed to get a copy at great expense and found out the reason for her action.

Was really looking forward to getting this, I hope it sees the light of day soon!
Re: Fabulous New Bassey CD Shelved
I remember the album Bassey Meets Bond but Terence you know more about Shirley than I do as I never knew she wanted that album stopped.
This Is My Life is a Bassey showstopper and I've seen her onstage several times but not since the 80's when it was a Royal show I managed to get tickets for, she was superb that night and shared the stage with people like Robert Goulet, Juliet Prowse, Kirk Douglas, George Segal, Jacque Louisier, Sarah Brightman, Linda Evans, Bob Monkhouse, Terry Wogan , Rory Bremner and many more. I still have the VHS tape of the televised show.
