Hi Terence and all---did you ever hear the Don Mclean song "Castles in the air"---a really lovely song-I think it was a smallish hit--nowhere near as big as "And I love you so " "Vincent" or "American Pie", but I think I prefer it to all those-It would have been another goodie for Matt to sing.

Hi Marian

Matt Monro mostly sang with an orchestra. With songs like Castles In The Air, the backing is mostly guitar. I don't think I have heard Matt attempt a folk song with mostly guitar accompaniment. I may be wrong.

Well, I may be wrong, but I do not recall Matt singing a Stevie Wonder song--I wonder why? I bet the Matt Magic would do wonders with these songs.

"Lately" and "You are the sunshine of my life" are 2 great songs among many--but I am going to choose a less well known one, but just as good--

"Overjoyed"

Hi Mariana44 and all. Matt did record a Stevie Wonder song "For Once In My Life" a song which has been mentioned on these pages "lately". (Get it).
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Hi everyone - looks like all the best nominations have been 'nicked' already! I would like to add the following suggestions though!

'We are in love' by Harry Connick Jnr

I know you, so well
I can tell by the sound of your voice that you're really in love with me
And you are, yes your are!

Its a very lively and upbeat number, and one of Harrys best I think.

The other track I would love to hear Matt sing would be 'The summer wind'. I just love some of the lyrics in that song -- they're so 'visual'

'Like painted kites, the days and mights, they went flying by
The world was new beneath the blue umbrella sky...'

Will carry on thinking of more!!!

Hi Mike--good to see you joining in this game---2 excellent suggestions from you---I do not know if Harry Connick Jnr has been mentioned on these pages before--but he certainly is a good singer "We are in love" is one of his best.

However, there are stll loads out there, just get your thinking cap on.

Hi Mariana44, Mike and everyone. Yes Mike good to see you joining in on the fun and games pages. The "Summer Wind" would have been a great song for Matt to sing.
As well as being a well known and accomplished singer Harry Connick Jnr has turned to acting also. He has appeared many times in the Channel 4 comedy series Will and Grace.
"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Glad to join in :-) Been a busy time at work so not had time to peruse all the pages for a while!

Indeed Harry Connick is an actor and I think it was in 'Memphis Belle' that he 1st came to public attention. Have seen most of Will & Grace so caught him as Leo in that.

Still thinking here, and now going to throw another name into the ring that may not be seen too often here, and that is Robbie Williams! His 'Swing when you're winning' album revived many a tune from the 'Rat Pack' era. Robbie and his co-artistes carried them off pretty well, and it was great to hear the modern big-bands playing full arrangements of songs such as 'What a swell party this'. Yes, he has tinkered with some of the lyrics in his own cheeky (or egotistical!) way.

So on that basis, I guess a duet of 'Me and my shadow' would be on my list! But who Matt be best singing the diet with? or is that a matter for a whole other topic!

Hi Mike---good Point!!! Although I would not have a clue who to suggest.,but I bet someone will have a bright idea.

I do love the Robbie Williams album-my fave track is "They can't take that away from me", but I nominated that ages ago.

Going back a few responses:

I guess I missed the messages on For Once In My Life. I wouldn't say it's a "Stevie Wonder song", because he didn't write it. He had the biggest hit version, but many other people recorded it and released it prior to Stevie's version made the charts.

I also like Overjoyed. Matt Monro would have recorded a lovely version of All In Love Is Fair. Another of my favourite Stevie Wonder songs is Knocks Me Off My Feet.

Well, here it is---the collection [so far] of songs that we would love to hear Matt sing. I expect there are loads more, so keep them coming.

You had me from hello-----From Here to Eternity-----People will say we’re in love---Surrey with the fringe on top---Sometimes when we touch---Moon River---When I look in your eyes [English version—chosen by Michele]----The way you look tonight---Deep purple---My heart stood still---Where or when---They can’t take that away from me—How about you---Here’s that rainy day---A day in the life of a fool---Moonlight becomes you—A fine Romance—It’s all in the game----Pennies from Heaven—I’ll get by---It was a very good year---If I loved you---If I ruled the world---That’s all---Life is nothing without music---Zip a dee doo dah---Walking my baby back home---Just loving you---The Anniversary Waltz---On my way to you---The Way we were----How do you keep the music playing---Like a Lover---Pieces of dreams---Almost like being in love—To each his own---You made me love you---Heather on the hill—I was born in love with you—Summer me, Winter me----Love said goodbye---The folks who live on the hill---All of me---Zing went the strings of my heart---You make me feel so young---Nature Boy---Younger than Springtime---We kiss in a shadow---I won’t dance---Wind beneath my wings—Smoke gets in your eyes—There’s a small hotel---I couldn’t sleep a wink last night---This is a lovely way to spend an evening—On the street where you live---No other Love---I can’t get started---Bewitched---Thou Swell--And I love you so---- Castles in the air—Overjoyed---We are in love---The Summer Wind----Me and my shadow---All in love is fair..

Well—what a great collection---and not a single double !! It is interesting to note that there are very few modern songs included, and a huge percentage seem to be from “The Great American Songbook”. If I had to pick just one, I think it would have to be “The way you look tonight”., but there are some really great songs included here.

Looking forward to some more nominations.
