Henry, in the US do you call them pubs or bars ..............or both ?

Robert they are called bars, though some call themselves pubs because of their themes which normally have to do with England or Ireland.

Robert & Eman---I sometimes visit the "Mayflower Pub" about 1/2 mile from my home....They have Guiness on tap!
Plus they specialize in "Bangers & Mash", "Irish Stew" & also "Shepherd's Pie"

P.S. - We are making up for our dry winter.....We've had 8 inches of rain in the last 48 hours....even my dog got wet!

What is "coddle" ?

Marian I just checked online, sometimes known as Dublin Coddle it's a dish with pork sausage, bacon, potatoe & onion, it looks like a stew and i'm sure it will be very tasty.

Sounds delicious--apart from the potatoes--and Guiness !!

Mariana, that's what makes the stew and gives it it's rustic flavour. The alcohol is boiled out but the taste is really kinda mellow mixed with all the other stuff.
