Hi Keith-it was actually Michelle who became pregnant---Ruth was actually involved in a relationship with another woman--I do not know what SirAlan would say to that.

I have never watched Big Brother, but from all I can gather, I would not have thought it was in any way like "The Apprentice"--apart from the fact that they all live in one Big House, and every week, one of them has to leave.

Mike's comments were interesting, re the effects on John Lewis_ I had never realised that it could have a knock-on effect like that.

The Guardian describes the Apprentice as' Big Brother with GCSEs'. I'd disagree. The public have no control over who leaves the Apprentice, and so participants don't play the same sort of mind games.

The Apprentice is specifically designed to test contestants interpersonal, leadership and entreprenerial skills, and then Sir Alan holds the individuals accountable for their behaviour. I found it highly motivating viewing - not only to see how the indivduals perform, but to see how good teamwork is so important in business.

Yes, I had gathered that they were not really alike.

Never watch either!
I did read somewhere that Alan had dined with Jonathan Woss-I can't decide which of them displayed the worst judgment there! :D

Aww - don't start on Wossy! I know many on here don't like him but I think he is a great presenter, both on Radio and TV. I used to dislike him in his early days, but he and Chris Evans have both really grown on me. Chris's Radio 2 show is really great to drive along to. He still has so much enthusiasm and inqusitiveness, but is a more comfortable with his celebrity status. I guess as I am the roughly the same age as Chris Evans, and only a little younger than Jonathan Ross, that I am mellowing with them!

I really like Chris Evans , although I never thought that I would--I listen to him each evening, while I am feeding the dogs, and cooking my tea.

But there is nothing that will induce me to listen to Jonathan Ross--ever !!

Good start!

"The winner of TV contest The Apprentice called in sick on his first day working for new boss Sir Alan Sugar.
Lee McQueen, 30, failed to start his new job because he is suffering from a "flu-like virus", according to a spokesman."

Yes, thinking back on Michelle and now Lee, one wonders about Sir Alan Sugar's judgement.

I totally agree--in Michelle's case, Ruth was much the stronger candidate--as was Claire this year.

I'd take on a bet that Sir Alan knows that too Marian. 8)
I kind of hope that Claire's feeling a little bit smug today.

I chuckled when I saw that headline on Yahoo! Can you imagine the phone call to Sir Alan's office?

Croaky voice sounded person who sounds like they are trying to sound even more ill by talking very slowly and quietly....'Hello - is that Frances? Its Lee here... I'm supposed to be starting with you today but I'm afraid I've got a flu-like virus. So I won't be able to make it in today. can you let Sir Alan know' - THATS what I'm talking about
