Al Jolson's recording is the one to listen to, but there's one to watch on YOUTUBE with Lena Zavaroni, that's if you're game enough to watch it all the way through

Brahms's symphonies. He wrote four. Can't decide which is my favourite. Probably No 3.

No Gray, sorry, my fault, I should have made it clearer about The Spaniard who Blighted My Life. Lena Zavarone sings this very song on YOUTUBE.

That is a lovely song "September In The Rain" by The Platters Gray
A fantastic group.
Several others recorded it, but Dinah Washington's is a favourite.

Listening to a 2 on 1 CD by Jo Stafford tonight. The albums are called -Autumn in New York- and -Starring Jo Stafford- surely the first one should be called "Fall in New York"............well she is American

Listened to the CD the "Best of Matt" last night from the 90's, released on the Capitol label............the one which contains Jeannie 8) :D

Hi Lena

Yes, Dinah Washington's version is my favourite also. :)
Was listening to Sarah Vaughan's recording yesterday also, I've said it before and I'll say it again, Sarah Vaughan's voice is like velvet.

Gray, most of us will always associate Sarah Vaughan with the duet recording of Passing Strangers with Billy Eckstine, but of course she was simply a superb singer, and as you say with a velvet voice and wonderful recordings.
There are several on YOUTUBE and you have to listen to her superb "Misty" and then in contrast "I Can't Give You Anything but Love"

Well, we certainly ran the gamut on these last few posts.

I can't get into the Brahms symphonies Jon. Perhaps too complex for me.

I've never seen Jo Stafford CDs in the US Robert. Is your favourite song You Belong To Me?

I also like Dinah Washington's version of September In The Rain, but the best is by George Shearing.

I'm currently listening to Friday Night Is Music Night from Blackpool. Last Friday was "Veterans Day". (I didn't know it was on June 27.) It's interval time and they are playing songs by Dennis Wilson. They just re-released a CD of his music and it made the UK charts (quite high in fact). I prefer the concert music on FNIMN.

Been listening to Petula Clarks new cd "Then and Now" today, there are about half a dozen new songs amongst the old favourites, I am not keen on a couple of the tracks though.

Jeff, I don't really know Jo Stafford music that well. I had the 2 on 1 CD for a while without playing it

Listening to Johann Strauss - Waltzes - on CD tonight. Not really into the classics, but I purchased the CD for £4.99, as it was recommended on local radio for smooth listening :)

Jo Stafford is regarded by millions as being among the best and most famous American female vocalist of them all. Her recordings are up among the likes of Doris Day, Peggy Lee etc.
We have quite a collection of her music even before those early Fifties when she was making duet recordings, many of those with Frankie Laine and Gordon Macrae. Great singer

Listening to Alan Titchmarsh playing Tales From the Vienna Woods by Strauss tonight by the New York Philharmonic :) my CD is by the Vienna Philharmonic :)

I'm getting into the Strauss CD :) as Jeff is a big Edward Elgar fan, I am now tempted to buy the 150th anniversary 4 disc CD from HMV for £9.99 - which includes the Pomp and C....stance marches. (None appeared the first time).
