JUDITH DURHAM

Post by hpooch » Tue Apr 24, 2012 5:00 am

Judith Durham has to be one of the greatest singers of the last 50 years....That is my opinion after hearing most of her
vocals either as lead singer of the Seekers or her solo recordings since 1972. I checked back in my notes to discover that
I heard her sing with Turk Murphy's Jazz band at Earthquake McGoon's in S.F. in 1972. Going thru my old cassettes I also
found 10 tracks of her jazz recordings that were on her hard-to-find LP(or CD) "JD with the Hottest Band in Town-Vol.2".
Do any of you reading this have Vol.1 of this CD or her 50th Anniversary CD - "The Colours of My Life"?? If so, please let
me know by E-Mail (hpooch@gmail.com) & I will trade with you for the one I have or other recordings from my collection.
I found some of her CDs on the internet, but they are priced as high as US$90.00 !!

I liked Judith in The Seekers Henry but I never liked her singing Jazz.

Have you read her book? I enjoyed it.

Henry I didn't know she sang jazz? Interesting. I only heard of her with the Seekers.

She has made quite a few solo albums, I am not keen on her jazz songs either I have to admit but she has made many other superb recordings. Still sounding wonderful all these years later. :D

Eman, please check out Judith Durham on "You Tube" singing "Cakewalkin' Babies" & "Basin Street Blues". Great Jazz Singing!
Also, hear her sing "What'll I Do" for a beautiful rendition that she did at the same time as the ones above (1973)

I was wondering if Judith Durham ever sang with Matt or ever appeared on the same
program with him whether "Live" or Radio/TV?? It would have been a great coupling!
Anyone out there know if the above ever happened?

You can buy most of Judiths back catalogue from http://www.judithdurham.com all though none of it is exactly cheap

Universal Australia now handle her recordings, including a couple of new albums, the anniversay set and a re isue of her first A&M lp. Irritating these are only available from Australia too. http://www.judithdurham.com/docs/Judith ... leases.pdf

Come on Universal UK, Issue them here too!

I could be very wrong here, and apologies if I am, but didn't Matt and Judith both appear on the same "Frost on Sunday" show in 1970. They didn't sing together, but seem to recall they were both on the same show.
