We have some boxes of gramophone needles with our Two Gramophones. They were aways recommended that they should be used once only, but they never were. :)
One of our stylus plays 33rpms and 45s, and another for 78s.

Oh, right Isee.
Maybe that's what they were referring to, actual needles rather than a stylus.
Can you still buy the needles, does anyone know?

Lena & Harry, can I be really nosey please?
Your Gramophones, what do they look like?
Do either of them have the large horn/funnel type thing?

If so, what's the sound quality like! :)

Thank you

I would like an old valve Gramaphone or Stereogram. Such a better sound than the rubbish these days. I haven't got the room for one really.

One of them is a Columbia, the larger kind of wind up with a lift up lid and cabinet for records, ( filled with song sheets at the moment ) and opens up on the front for louder sound.
The other is just the wind up HMV player Gray, but neither have a horn attached like some have.
Sound varies depending on the condition of the record, usually on the B side that hasn't takien such a bashing.

Hi Lena

Wow, just Googled the Columbia gramophone to get a better image in my minds eye of what it must look like.
Tis a thing of beauty! :)

Is anyone familiar with the Matt song's 'I Love You Too' & 'Just Yesterday'...?

I've never heard them before, but they are both cracking little songs.

I've leant my copy of The Rare Monro to my parents - doh!
Thanks for replying John & Robert, I'll have to check the Rare Monro next time I'm at my mum and dads.

I never knew that it was on the Readers Digest set, I have seen one or two on ebay occasionally but always got pipped to the post!

I have the album Gray, but I will have to look it out and find out, most of my records are at my Dad's house. I have a feeling it could be stereo though.
