For all you musical fans and most of us are, Elaine Paige is featuring High Society and all the great songs from that film on her show tomorrow. Starts at the usual time of 1. 0' clock to 2.30. pm.

I went to see Elaine Paige in Evita many years ago she was superb and it was a great show believe Josh Ukland was in it as well at the time.

Hi Val, We first remember Elaine Paige back in the Sixties when she was one of a group of singers who had a weekly spot on television. She wasn't one of the lead singers in this group
The lead singer was a guy called Danny Street and Kiki Dee was also in this series, can't remember who else.
We didn't see her in Evita, although it was a big success, but we saw her in "The King And I " at The London Palladium about five or six years ago.
A really lavish production. Beautiful costumes and dresses.
We've got the film video Evita with Madonna. Thought she was great in the role.

Hi Val-I saw Evita with Stephanie Lawrence as Evita--great, great show.
I have mentioned elsewhere, but you may not have seen it, but afterwards a group of us went into Stephanies dressing room. It was with the Johnny Mathis fan-club--she came to one of our lunches , and invited us to come back-stage. She once sang a duet with him-that was tje connection.She was still dressed in her deathbed make-up, but she was just so lovely and friendly, and we could take as many photos as we wished. I was so sad when she died a few years back.

I remember buying the record of Judy Covinton not sure about spelling singing Evita i think she was the one who made the record a hit but she was a recluse so didnt want to do the show she had a great voice but most other people have done the song very well, i also have the vidio of madonna and Jimmy Nail in Evita both do a grand job.

Cant say i have heard of Stephanie Lawrence Mariana did she do anything else? might have seen her in other things she sounds like she was a very nice person.

Hi Val--sadly Stephanie is no longer with us, but she did quite a few shows--one of her most famous roles was as the part of "Marilyn Monroe" in a musical about Marilyn.

I was just browsing through Sarah Kennedy's playlists for the week. I noticed that yesterday (Tuesday, 11th of July), she played a song from Starlight Express sung by Stephanie Lawrence as her "showtime" feature.

So if, like me, you've never heard Stephanie Lawrence, this is a good opportunity---using the BBC Radio 2 'listen again' feature. I plan to listen to her programme tomorrow.

Hi Paull-yes I do believe that Stehanie was also in Starlight Express--I remember her being interviewed about how she had to learn to skate especially for the show. Thanks for the reminder,,

I went to see starlight express and really enjoyed it but not very good at remembering names lol Where i used to work we all got together and went every month up town to see a show had a great time and see some good shows.

Hi Val, Yes I saw "Starlight Express" enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Stephanie may or may not have been in it when you saw it---the casts did change quite frequently. But how about those skaters whizzing right past your head

I used to go to lots of shows too, when I worked in London--always musicals. I have been to a few since--matinees--it is just too difficult to get home now after a night out--I think the last one I saw was "Guys and Dolls" at the National---not the most recent one, that is still on, I believe.

Marian, it's a long time since we have been to see a musical. The last one was probably Cole Porters " Anything Goes" at the National Theatre with Sally Ann Triplett and John Borrowman. Love those songs. I Get A Kick Out Of You, "You're The Top" "It's De Lovely" Blow Gabriel Blow"
Other than that, the last two years have been following Al Martino for his tours here. Had a great time.
We do get to The Mill At Sonning fairly regular. They have great shows on there.
Must start catching up with some musicals.

Yes i do remember the skating very close and very loud lol but good fun,
I go to see mainly musicals went to see Buddy Holly twice great show also Tribute to Roy Orbison and Gerry Marsdon from Gerry and the pacemakers i also now go to afternoon shows now

Hi Lena and Harry, and everyone else...
"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" is touring at the moment I believe, with Dave Willetts in the starring role as Adam. Well worth going to see. Dave has starred in many shows including "Phantom" and "Les Miserables". He also tours regularly with his own show.
Peter and I also go to The Mill at Sonning - always a lovely evening.

Hi Marian--first mention of Dave Willetts on this forum I believe--very good singer--and completely underestimated. I saw him in "Phantom" in Manchester, and to me, he was so much better than Michael Crawford, who I saw in London. I did not know he was touring with "7 Brides", but I camn imaine him doing a great job.

I booked up to see him on concert once , had a brilliant seat--centre block, 2nd row. In the end I could not go, as my husband won the "Mens Singles " in his bowling club, and the presentation supper was that same night.
