Gosh, I find it hard to comprehend the aircraft story, I just cannot comprehend it.
It's all rather sad.

Katie Price is very knowledgeable about horses. Our granddaughter loves the horsey books she writes. :D
It's not right that she should be banned from a horse show on those grounds by snobby officials.

I too agree that celebrity worship is one of the saddest aspects of our times. However I wouldn't go so far as to say that television, while reflecting the obsession with celebrity, is all bad. Television, like most things in life, has good and bad aspects and can fulfil an educational role as well as an entertainment one, and while there is certainly a lot of rubbish on it (exacerbated by the proliferation of channels via digital and satellite), I don't think I could bring myself to do without a TV. I often deliberately avoid switching on my TV for days on end and restrict my viewing to what I consider to be the better programmes. After all, there's a good one on Charles Darwin coming up next week...

Personally Jon, I think there was more adoration of celebrity in the golden years of Hollywood than there is today.
Just think how we worshipped those stars of the silver screen, and still do, whereas the so called 'celebrities' of today come and go in the wink of an eye.
There was a mystery surrounding the stars of the old days, due to much less publicity I suppose, that the celebs today cannot escape from.
The media build them up and then knock them down.

Very true Jon, Channel 4 is probably my favourite channel. It has a very eclectic mix of programmes, from excellent docs, brilliant news, comedy and all round entertainment. It has a long history of putting a 'shock' show on on Friday night in this slot, going back to the notorious 'The Word' in the early 90s, which I used to enjoy. In a way I am probably being a hypocrite when I think about it - I used to like 'The Word', as well as the Graham Norton Show that followed, as well as 'The Friday Night Project' - all these programmes contain their fair share of expletives and outrageous content. Where these shows differ, in my opinion, is that have talented presenters (although I don't expect much agreement on that  ).

Upon reflection, my biggest problem with Charlotte Church is that she only has the job because of her celebrity status - she is certainly not skilled as a presenter/interviewer.

Here I go again, I hear those trumpets blow again.......

It may have been the case in former times, Marian, that people were more obsessed with celebrity than they are now, but, as you say, the celebrities involved were of greater substance than many we see today. It's also the case now that any old Tom, dick or Harry can aspire to be a celebrity when they have no talent and no potential, yet are often courted by the media as if they had (e.g. "Big Brother"), and I think this is where the real problem lies. Let's go back to acknowledging the real talent and ignoring all the rest.

Mike, I largely agree about Channel 4 but I do think it has become slightly dumbed down over the last few years (e.g. "Wife Swap"). Many people say that Channel 5 is now becoming "the new Channel 4" as there has been a growth in factual and educational programmes on there of late: progress indeed from the days when the joke went round that Channel 5 consisted of nothing but "naughty" programmes and shows about Hitler!

Going back to Katie Price briefly. I see she has been invited to perform a dressage routine at The Horse Of the Year Show Diamond Anniversary celebrations in October.
