Hi Robert---obviously your cd speakers will be a better sound than the ones on your computer--but if you are like me and your computer is upstairs, and the stereo is downstairs--at least I can then listen to my music up stairs. Although I do have some excellent speakers for my Ipod, so I do not have to wear headphones.

But it will be loads easier to make up your own compilation discs, and then listen to them on your cd speakers.

Hi Robert--I do not think that Lena and Harry or myself said that Cole Porter was not a great composer--admittedly he is probably not in my personal top 5--but he definately gave us some great standards.

Hi Mariana44. It was Paul who said that Cole Porter wrote a dozen "lousy songs" and that he was a very overrated composer/lyricist.
He is not one of my all time favourites admittedly, but he wrote many classic songs, especially from my favourite period for musicals, the 1930's for which he wrote many of those fantastic songs.

Hello all. Can I just mention that Cole Porter was the featured "composer/lyricist" on Russell Davis show on Radio2 this afternoon. If Paul see's this, Al Bowly sang one of Cole Porters songs on the show.

Going back to the original subject of June Allyson--mabe it is a coincidence, maybe not---but next week "Little Women " is on---the original and the best--I forget which day or channel, but it is not digital.

Looking forward to that--Marian

Going back to the side topic of Rodgers & Hart and Thou Swell. I'm so pleased that you love the Supremes Rodgers & Hart album, Marian. I thought that few people knew about that. My favourites are the songs in the Motown style, rather that the ones with the big arrangements. Falling In Love With Love (with Mary Wilson soloing on one of the verses) is one of the best.

I will have to include Blossom Dearie's Thou Swell on the CD or tape for you. You really must hear it. I hope that you are familiar with her recordings. I only have two, Blossom Dearie and Once Upon A Summertime. I highly recommend them. Next I want to get her Live In London albums.

Now onto Cole Porter: Here are a few of the duds:

I Get A Kick Out Of You
Don't Fence Me In
Begin The Beguine (in any version, besides Artie Shaw's great recording)
Friendship
Let's Do It (Let's Fall In Love)
Love For Sale

Here are the best (amazingly more than the duds!)

So In Love
At Long Last Love (especially by Frank Stallone)
What Is This Thing Called Love (again by Artie Shaw)
Night And Day
It's De-Lovely
You Do Something To Me
It's All Right With Me (especially by Crystal Gayle)
I've Got You Under My Skin (especially by Dinah Washington with Clifford Brown)
You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To (especially by Julie London or Helen Merrill with Clifford Brown)
In The Still Of The Night (especially by Doris Day ... the best recording ever of any Cole Porter song)

Hi Paul--I am like you, and did not know of anyone else who knew about the "Supremes sing Rodgers and Hart "Album.

I only had it on an LP, for ages, and only recently spotted it on CD, with more then twice the number of tracks as my old LP. I was just delighted, I can tell you. It is definately one of my fave cd's. My fave track, apart from "Thou Swell" is "My Heart stood still"---and I just love it when Diana sings "My heart stopped right there".

I am familiar with Blossom Dearie--she has a very distinctive voice and style-I would love to hear her version of "Thou Swell"., thank you.

I am going to disagree with you on Cole Porter--and I probably will not be the only one--On your list of "Duds", I do not think that "I get a kick out of you" can be called that--It's definately as good some of your "Best".

I am going to be interested to hear the other comments we get on this subject!!

Hi all. First of all Mariana44 shouldn't you be in bed by now, as I thought after 10 p.m. was your bedtime   We have already mentioned Cole Porter a few times above. I do not agree with you duds list Paul (well there's a funny thing) as I agree with Mariana44. Also "Begin The Beguine" is an exceptional tune.
