Hi Michele. I have been checking on the Internet, and so far not one of the songs on your list has come up, so it will probably be a big ask.

Do the songwriters have to go on the CD, as on the 4 box Singers Singer, I think there were a few "unknown" songwriters on there, on disc 4 ????

I wonder if these are the songs Lena and Harry mentioned yesterday as being ones that they couldn't recall hearing before. Let's hope someone can come up with the much needed information.

I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On" :(

Hi Robert-I did the same as you-I only checked the one lyrics site, but when not one turned up, I guessed it might be a long job.

Hope someone else out there has better luck!

Love Song / It's That Time Again

Post by Terence Lee » Sun Jul 16, 2006 6:14 pm

Hi Michele

1) Love Song was written by Lesley Duncan.

2) It's That Time Again was written by Benny Diggs & Joseph Joubert and covered by jazz song stylist Nancy Wilson on her CD "Nancy Now" .

I've So Much To Be Thankful For was written by Johnny Douglas & Richard Mullan. Eddy Arnold sings the definitive version.

During One Night

Post by Terence Lee » Sun Jul 16, 2006 7:21 pm

Bill McGuffie composed During One Night for the UK war movie of the same name in 1962. It is possible Matt sang the song.

These Things Happen

Post by Terence Lee » Sun Jul 16, 2006 7:42 pm

Hi Michele

Lori Spee wrote both the lyrics and music for These Things Happen. She released her own version on her album "One Step" in 1986. I am not sure if this is the song your dad sang.

Two years earlier in 1984, David Van Tiegheim wrote and released These Things Happen on a Warner Bros single.

Let Me Choose Life

Post by Terence Lee » Sun Jul 16, 2006 8:12 pm

Glenn Yarbrough of the Limeliters released Let Me Choose Life on a single but I have not found out which member of the Limeliters penned this particular song. Ernie Sheldon wrote many of the songs.

Touch Of Your Love

Post by Terence Lee » Sun Jul 16, 2006 8:23 pm

In 1974, 2 singer-songwriters Bert Campbell & Thomas Waterfield (son of actress Jane Russell) formed a band called Toucan Eddy. A single they released was Touch Of Your Love. Perhaps this was the song your dad recorded.

Hope I have been of some help. It's 3.30am here in Malaysia and time for bed.

Song Titles

Post by Michele Monro » Sun Jul 16, 2006 10:52 pm

Terence I am very grateful for all your hard work. Unfortunately we are not at the finish line yet as most of the songs you mentioned are not the versions by dad.

Some of these titles have thirty of forty versions and it is a nightmare puzzle wading through them.

But I really appreciate all you have done.
Hope you slept well

Matt's version

Post by Terence Lee » Mon Jul 17, 2006 4:06 am

Hi Michele

You will actually have to listen to your dad's version and try to find out what year he recorded it. If he sang it in the 60s, then a song composed in the 70s will be wrong.

The tracks that you mentioned......are they all early radio broadcasts?

I bet he sang Leslie Duncan's Love Song. Peggy Lee did a fine version on her final EMI album in the 70s titled Norma Deloris Egstrom From Jamestown.

The song that Nancy Wilson covered was written very long ago and was probably the one your dad sang.

I bet he did the Eddy Arnold number as well as Matt was versatile.

Not so sure about the rest.

Thanks Marian, I love detective work.
Robert, what time do the birds come out in UK? Here it is 7am.
