OLYMPICS LONDON 2012

Post by Lena & Harry Smith » Wed Jul 25, 2012 1:19 pm

A NEWSPAPER REPORT FROM A SPECTATOR AT THE OPENING CEREMONY.

Forget about Athens, Atlanta, Beijing. This spectacular is us, London, Britain at our best ever.
He went on to say...I won't spoil it for you but this opening ceremony is going to blow the worlds socks off.
Well we have been watching the torch being carried through Brent and Barnet this morning and the thousands of people who lined the entire route were cheering and applauding and enjoying the glorious weather.
For those athletes including the disabled athletes who proudly took their turn and were given so much care and arrention, it made us realise how much good there is in people.
We are looking forward to it now. Roll on Friday. :D :D

I really want everything to go well--but at the moment I am just slightly pessimistic--but I will be happy to be proved wrong !

The Olympics actually started today with the start of the Womens Football tournament :) ..............L&H, the opening ceremony sounds awesome, hope there isn't a c.ck up like tonight, when the South Korean flag was displayed instead of the North Korean flag at the womens football

Yes Robert, the mixing up of the North and South Korean flag was disgraceful whoever was responsible for that.
Anyway the womens football started off well beating New Zealand, even though it should have been a Three goal win at the very least,
This evening we have Stuart Pearces team playing Senegal. His decision to leave David Beckham out of the team hasn't gone down too well with the public, and taken a little bit of the the expectation of the game away for most of us, but we'll be supporting them.
Still don't know who the Olympic torch bearer will be. ?? Who do you think.

I heard it was Chris Hoy chosen to be the Olympoic torch Bearer.

So the chaos has started already--even I did not expect it to be so soon--before the opening ceremony even.

Of all the flags in all the world [etc] to get wrong The North and South Korean must have been the worst--they are such bitter enemies.

I see at least one person being taken to the Tower for the duration !!

Chris Hoy is to carry the flag for the British team Marian. They probably want to keep the name of the person who will light the Olympic flame until tomorrow . :)

Sorry about that !!

I guess it could be David Beckham-i think he would be a popular choice-especially as he was left out of the football team-as bad decision, I think-but I have also heard that Mohammed Ali is expected to be there, so he may do it, like he has done previously.

From what I've read, unless there's a change, David Beckham will be accompanying Mahommed Ali, but who knows that may include lighting the torch.
There are several worthy of this honour, I'm just hoping it won't be Daley Thompson :x

I've certainly not heard Daley Thompson mentioned--I think if Mohammed Ali is there, then it will have to be him.

Daley Thompson and Steve Redgrave appear to be the Two most likely contenders and both have been airing comments about each other as to who they think should have this honour.

It looks like the weather in London has cooperated this week with a slight chance of rain tomorrow, but next week
looks to be sunny and warmer.....You Brits deserve this reward after such a "crappy" last 3 months!!
I have been watching NBC stations covering the Olympics & looking forward to the Opening Ceremony staged by Danny Boyle.
Sorry about mistakenly subbing Peter Boyle for Danny Boyle....I must have been thinking about "Young Frankenstein"-the movie!

I think you meant Danny Boyle Henry.
Weather is supposed to be unsettled for next week, but the best sunshine looks to be in the South.

I am watching the final minutes of the opening ceremony in London on NBC. It was a delayed TV broadcast
here in the U.S. so after over 4 hours, Paul McCartney is singing "Hey Jude" with the crowd singing along.
Quite a night for you all.....Do any of the forum members plan to attend any of the events?
Since it's past midnight here, I'm going to bed......Talk to you all tomorrow (Saturday)!

Henry, we're on the same time zone, and yeah I stayed up for it all no matter how pooped I was from work. Just got up now and I thought the best part was the James Bond installment with the Queen. Just awesome!!
