OLYMPICS LONDON 2012
Re: OLYMPICS LONDON 2012
Just watched the final of the show jumping team win the gold medal. We tied for first place with the Netherlands, so we had to have a jump off for the gold. Very exciting!
First GB gold since 1952.
I don't think that even the inclusion of David Beckham would have made any difference to the football!

Or you could just use Great Britain, as I don't think we have any memebers on the forum from Northern Irelandhpooch wrote:Thanks, Marian......From now on I will use the U.K. (United Kingdom) when addressing this forum

XANADU
(with apologies to Samuel Coleridge)
In Stratford did Olympic gods
a pringle velodrome decree
where Lee, the local river runs,
through envious east London,
past towering monuments to Mammon's gilded city.
There with patriotic pleasure we behold
cyclists slowing, banking, sprinting,
leaving the whole world trailing
while bagging for Britain a cornucopia of gold.

Re: OLYMPICS LONDON 2012
Still time for Great Britain to capture some more medals, and although we usually feel disappointed when the England football team gets eliminated, (as is the routine now) this summed it up in the newspaper....
How can they ever hold their arrogant heads up again compared with our Olympic competitors. We the footie fans, suckers, besotted by the Premier League players.
The poor things most days have to get into their Bentleys to reach their training ground by 10'o'Clock. Sit around having breakfast in their flip flops, ring their agents, arrange their sex lives, then go through an hour of training and sometimes work up a sweat and most of them somehow have to rub along on £150.000 a week, and still regarded as role models
It went on to say ,dear God how could we have been so deluded.
In comparison, the Olympians have opened our eyes when we think of their daily routines of Four years slogging away every morning in rain and snow, no fans or groupies and end up nice people, no arrogance, and admirable people.
When was this last seen in football,,,Yes, it was back in 1966.

Well said, Lena.
Couldn't agree more.
Not just that, but I am getting fed up with the X-Factor wannabes, TOWIE's and celeb driven air-heads.
Good job ITV didn't broadcast the Olympics, we would of had 15 rounds of public vote off's and new events such as who can eat the most whitchetty grubs.
Ah that feels better! Rant over!

BLAKE'S SECOND
I am a runner of sparkling renown
on the Olympic sprinters' track,
but one blooming niggle is getting me down:
I'm sick of the sight of you-know-whose broad back.

That's it Gray, get it off your chest. and Keith that is very good.
However good Jamaican Usain Bolt is if only he would cut the antics before and after his races and show a bit of modesty.
He could take a leaf out of David Rudishas the Kenyan athlete's book. He seems such a pleasant character.

For me, Usain Bolt is the highlight of the London Olympics, just as he was in Beijing. I like every gesture, every proclamation, and his amazing running. The US commentators were correct in that we haven't seen anyone with his charisma since Mohammed Ali.

Re: OLYMPICS LONDON 2012
I do agree Paul that Usain Bolt has definitely been one of the highlights of the Olympics, he's proved to be the current fastest human being on two legs.
He has now described himself as a legend, but... Charisma
