Fan Worship
Ok, I just want to know that when everyone was younger (gee and I'm not saying we are old ok). Who did you idolize and had to have every last thing or did anything crazy to try to meet your heroes?
Me it was first The Monkees, then David Cassidy and the PF. Yet the one band that I was absolutely mad about and really really mad about as you all know was The Bay City Rollers. LOL. I tried to con my Dad to let my Uncle take me to Edinburgh, though my brother foiled my plan and said it wasn't really educational but to try and meet the BCR's. I fixed him though, and got him in trouble so he didn't get to go to the KISS concert, and I went in his place. Still hasn't forgiven me for that one!!! Ha ha!! Then I bunked off school with friends, to take a bus to Los Angeles to go to a tv studio where they were guests on the Mike Douglas Show but didn't even get in but was outside the studio with thousands of other Rollermaniacs. Could have got away with it but the Principal had called my folks and my friends folks because we weren't in school.. Ha ha!! Boy did I ever get a tounge lashing . a little sore behind (yep you still could do that in those days) , a month grounding with no stereo and NO BCRS and no wearing of Rollergear for a whole month. Innocent crazy times.
Share your stories folks, love to hear them.

Re: Fan Worship
Good topic, Eman.
My early "major fascinators" included:
*Everly Brothers
*Johnny Cash
*Beatles
*Brian Wilson
*Matt
*Bobby Sherman
*Neil Diamond
Of all of them, Matt is supreme.

Re: Fan Worship
I just loved all of the mid to late 60's music coming out of Radio Luxembourg and then Radio 1

"My Tears Will Fall Now That You're Gone,
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"
I Can't Help But Cry, But I Must Go On"

Re: Fan Worship
Ha ha!! Then I must be the only cuckoo who did crazy stuff.
.. Though Lindy, I read in Bobby Sherman's biography there was a girl who mailed herself special delivery to him. She got in a box with air holes and oxygen tanks from what he said, and when he opened the box, she popped out and was attacking him. Apparently she lived in the town and had connections in the post office to deliver her to his hotel where he was playing. Ok, I'm a fan, but not like that... With David Cassidy, girls and some guys would line themselves up and lie down in front of his limo or try to ride on the roof and climb into the windows!! Crazy huh?

Re: Fan Worship
Eman, I remember that Bobby Sherman story. I'm pretty sure I did that...er, I mean, HEARD that story back then during Bobbymania.
Then again it could have just been a PR story to stoke the Bobbymania flames. He had some seriously big machinery working for him. His father was a VIP Hollywood exec, I think? But no, there were millions of Bobby fans who felt that way about him.
I think Matt's superfan, Sue, was the greatest fan. And apparently, Matt and Mickie did too.
Wonderful how the Monro family were to Sue. Splendid humanity.
I read Sue's account on this site and bawled as she told her story. Have you read that? Beautiful.

Re: Fan Worship
Yeah Lindy, I did!! I'm in awe of Matt and Mickie as they were approacable like anybody and no star tripping like so many! They seem like they could be your next door neighbors!! That's what I love about the Monro family! I hear Val Doonican is the same way!!
Re: Fan Worship
Obviously I cannot say I have personal experience of Matt, but I can assure you that Mickie, Michele and Matt Jnr have always been very approachable and down to earth.
Was that Sue Parker you were mentioning--we were all upset that she did not make the last "Fans Reunited"--she really was a lovely lady--we were just told she was unwell, but none of us realised how bad she was--but she even took time out to send a rare clip of Matt from her private collection for us to see.

Re: Fan Worship
I agree with all that has been said about the family and count myself fortunate to have met such a lovely lady as Mickie was.
Max too is a wonderful friendly young man and a great credit to his mum and his grandmother.
Sue was also a joy to meet, and we last saw her on the Radio 2's tribute to Matt Snr at the recording of "Friday Night is Music Night." She was always smiling, although she must have been in considerable pain at times.

Re: Fan Worship
Yes Eman. I would say that Matt was MORE approachable than anybody (can't say I've EVER met neighbors that friendly and kind in America! other than several families from Iran I knew in Orange County, CA).Eman wrote:Yeah Lindy, I did!! And Matt lived the true spirit of friendship more than anybody, and that's pretty amazing considering that he was and remains
THE MOST GIFTED SINGER / COOLEST ENTERTAINER IN THE WORLD, THEN AND NOW.

If I may be permitted to say that about Matt Monro on the Matt Monro forum.
