Love your cat memories Keith. :D
I have many memories too, both happy and sad, of several feline companions over many years. We have two at present, Toffee 15 and Cato 13.

Oscar Wilde wrote ..
Dawn follows dawn and nights grow old
and all the while this curious cat
lies crouching on the chinese mat
with eyes of satin rimmed with gold.

Marian.

Hi Jon

Yes, of course Beethoven could sing - like his Dad.
Don't forget Ludwig was deaf not dumb. :)
(Sorry, couldn't resist that) :D

Ok, Ok, I concede.
If I aren't allowed LvB then i would take Gordon MacRae instead.

Thanks Mariana.
so little Mitten
is no longer a kitten,
now a full grown cat -
predictable that.
(Well they do have nine lives.)

I hadn't read the Oscar Wilde lines,
Marian, thanks. He compensated for the
obvious rhyme (that's my forte)
with an exquisite last line.

I recommend Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats,
by T.S. Eliot, if you (and Mariana) haven't read it.
Strange how Andrew Lloyd Webber's musicals have
all been adaptations of other writers' works. Even more
mysterious (a la Macavity) is that the fact doesn't
detract from his (Lloyd Webber's) reputation as
a great composer.

Keith

Jon

You are quite correct - my list does not include the very best voice boxes I have heard, rather a list compiled from an artisit's body of work.
I apologise.

Further, I would like to submit a revised wish list!

1) Matt Monro
2) Aretha Franklyn
3) Luciano Pavarotti
4) Gordon MacRae
5) Barbara Streisand
6) David Ruffin

If I could take a 7th, it would be Otis Redding :)

Hi Paul

I think you're being a bit unfair on Oleta Adams. The song to which you may be referring was "Get Here" but she did some others that I prefer such as "Will We Ever Learn" and "I Knew You When", though I only have a greatest hits album. I believe she was trained at the Juilliard School and has also recorded a lot of gospel-type stuff, but I've not heard any of this. She was associated with the 80s' band Tears for Fears for a while and they produced some of her early albums. Not mad on her or anything.

The only song I have heard Oleta Adams sing is "Get here"--which I really like.

Oh dear ... my tastes are usually similar to Marian's from Kent. Get Here is on my top 10 most disliked songs of all time, along with I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith, Hero by Enrique Iglesias, Stand By Me by anyone, and No Air by Jordan Sparks and Chris Brown. Rainbow Connection isn't on the list, but it's not far away. Sorry I never got into the Muppets, Sesame Street or Electric Company. (I was too old and prefered Captain Kangaroo from the 1960s.) But the Teletubbies and Tweenies are a different story. Love them ... especially the Tweenies. :)

No I haven't heard Karen Carpenter sing The Rainbow Connection. Perhaps she would smooth out that part with the consecutive minor sixth intervals (or whatever they are). Well the entire melody doesn't sit well with me. But I'm sure Karen sings it beautifully.

The Teletubbies bit is coming from a high rating (5 out of 10) that I gave to their #1 single in the 1990s: Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh. Gray is not gonna forget this! :) But I do like them. I have Dipsy hanging from my blinds pull at work. And I loved the Tweenies single called Number 1 a few years ago.

Hi Marian

Yes, I knew our friend from the States was familiar with Dipsy and Noo-Noo.
Big Hug! :)
