HMV are in trouble, I knew this would happen one day but I hope they do not close or there will be nowhere to buy cd's etc apart from supermarkets and they carry minimal stock.
This is getting to be almost a weekly event last week was Jessops and Comet before that, if it carries on we won't have any High Street stores left!

I think it's wrong that they are refusing to take gift vouchers as they have already taken people's money. I believe Comet began refusing gift vouchers but later on they did honour them, so hopefully HMV will be able to do the same.
I read that if you paid by credit card you might be able to claim the money back from them. However this applies to amounts over £100, but it is worthwhile contacting the credit company anyway, you never know.

This is sad news--HMV has been part of my life, since I started work in London when I was 16 years old, and I would travel to Bond Street on the tube in my lunch hour--just to look around HMV.
There are no record shops now in Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells--only in Smiths or Sainsburys where they sell the top 10--but how does a record get to top 10 if people cannot buy it--not every one is on-line--or comfortable about shopping on line.
Who will be next--is anyone safe--I do not think so.

Mariana, I know. It's sad to say books are going this way also. Nothing against the kindle/ipod/ipad etc, but sometimes having something to flip through that's not a electronic device is nice and not everyone is into technology. I guess technology is being forced on everyone.

We were very sorry too to read about HMV going into administration but not unexpected. 
We are keeping our fingers crossed that some sort of package can be put together that could possibly save some of the stores. Although we do some shopping on the internet from various places, we still like to have a good browse round and in the case of clothes shopping we like to make sure that we are buying the right size and quality etc. Also we like the the personal touch that going into a store provides.
In the case of HMV especially, we always went into the store for a browse but more importantly to check that they were up to date with Matt's CDs.
Hopefully HMV will survive as an internet based store if a deal cannot be reached for the shops. Having said that though, we saw the other day that Play.com had closed their internet retail business due to the VAT change on orders under £15.

HMV has been so much a part of our lives too and although purchasing on the net and downloading is convenient and generally money saving for those able to use it, there is nothing quite like browsing the store and choosing.
The manager of HMV who took this position just Four months ago seemed very confident on the news tonight that something can be done and at least some of the stores could be saved, but if this can't be done perhaps the decent things they could do is to honour the gift vouchers that they were eager to sell to customers. If this disgraceful decision is not reversed, what a way for this company to bow out.

The new guy in charge of HMV was previously Chief Exec at Jessops.
When you have a gift voucher and a company folds, you become just another creditor. Immoral but not illegal. File a claim against them and you might get something back.
Surprised they lasted this long, as every Christmas for 3 or 4 years they have kept stating how they are struggling. Plus their online shop prices are not competitive, so I can't see that lasting.

I have a lot of happy memories browsing through the shelves at HMV in Manchester and Stockport. Also in the huge store in London where Lena, Harry and I fought over the last Robert Earl cd in the shop.

I did not know about Play.com--I used it occasionally--
I normally use Amazon, as their prices are normally very good--but when I was pricing my tablet, that I bought last month, i managed to find it in Currys for more than £20.00 less than Amazon, with free Pp--so it is always worth checking these things out.
