That's who came to mind with me too Mark. I don't know if he's been on the stage before, but he has done other things!!

I thought Jodie has lost quite a lot of weight when I saw her talking about the show since it opened a few nights ago.

I think Connie Fisher's new hairstyle and image recently might have been for the play she did on tv when she played an obsessed Elvis fan. I'm afraid I've forgotten the title.

From the reviews I read, I think it was Rowan Atkinson, who has not been on stage for 20 years.

I was quite surprised at the different reviews---nearly all unanimous in praising Rowan Atkinson---even though to me Ron Moody is, and always will be the perfect Fagin. However, very mixed comments on Jodie--some were good-some lukewarm--but also several really bad ones--can't act----can't sing etc, etc. But my guess is it will have a good run.

The Elvis Presley play that Connie Fisher appeared in was called "Caught in a trap"-I started to watch it, but became bored after half an hour.

We have also thought that no one could take the part of Fagin like Ron Moody. We saw Robert Lindsey when he played the part and wasn't impressed at all.
However we saw a little of Rowan Atkinson performing one of the songs and thought he was really good.
It seems that Jodie Prenger is to play Nancy a couple of nights a week and for a matinee and Tamsin Carroll the rest of the week.

I was surprised to hear that Jodie played Nancy last Wednesday, I'm not sure if that was the press night, and then had a night off on the Thursday. :?

Jeff might know Rowan Atkinson best as Mr Bean :)

I read one, very glowing, review of Jodie Prenger's opening night performance in one of the London freebie newspapers.

Connie Fisher is due to return to the role of Maria in The Sound of Music from July this year when it transfers to the Millenium Centre in Cardiff and thereafter goes on tour to, among other places, Bradford. However, a solo stage show that she was due to perform in last year was cancelled because of poor ticket sales and her performance in the TV drama about an Elvis Presley fan received at best lukewarm and at worst scathing reviews (I didn't see it so can't comment).

One wonders if she is a one-trick pony and can do Maria and nothing else. Puts me in mind of the actress Lynne Frederick, who was once feted as the next best thing to grace showbusiness but whose career, after initially enthusiastic reviews from critics, sank without trace, and she eventually died an alcoholic at the age of 39. Naturally one hopes, and expects, that Connie's career will not go the same way, but fame can be a fickle thing.

Wasn't Lynne Frederick married to Peter Sellers at one time? :?

Yes, Lynne Frederick was married to Peter Sellers and inherited his money, even though before his death he was having second thoughts about leaving it to her, and if we remember correctly she married again very soon after his death.

That's correct, Lena and Harry. She in fact married David Frost after Sellers died but was divorced from him after just 17 months; she then married a surgeon and that too ended in divorce. Sellers' family resented her and thought she only married him for his money, but she inherited his estate anyway as he died before he could strike her out. However, she also launched a lawsuit against someone to protect Sellers' name (don't know the full details), claiming she loved him and wanted to preserve his memory. She was cremated in Putney Vale Cemetery.
