Hi Marian, This was another Cole Porter nunber, and a hit mainly for Bing Crosby and The Andrew Sisters, Frankie Laine recorded it and so did Ella Fitzgerald.
Oh Give Me Land Lots Of Land....... :)

Hi all--well here goes---another classic song---and great intro---

Behold the way our fine feathered friend
His virtue doth parade
Thou knowest not, my dim-witted friend
The picture thou hast made
Thy vacant brow, and thy tousled hair
Conceal thy good intent
Thou noble upright truthful sincere
And slightly dopey gent...

HI Terra--quite right-well done---I do not know the Nina Simone version--I like Ruthie Henshall or Linda Ronstadt singing this song.

Your turn to give us a verse to guess.

OK, here goes....

Quite a rarer one I think, but Marian should get it....

Once upon a time,
Before I took up smiling
I hated the moonlight
Shadows of the night that poets find beguiling
Seemed flat as the moonlight
With no-one to stay up for
I went to sleep at ten
Life was a bitter cup for
The saddest of all men

Terra, we have this verse sung by another artist who really surprised many by changing to this kind of music, and we just love it
Could this be the same one that you have in mind???
We know by our conversations that you know this Marian :)

My Funny Valentine

Post by Terence Lee » Fri Aug 04, 2006 9:08 am

Hi everyone

May I ask which singer sang the definitive version of My Funny Valentine?

I have Barbra Streisand's version and I think it is a grand one especially at the end.

My best friend argues that Ella Fitzgerald's version cannot be topped.

Terra's intro is yet another lovely Rodgers & Hart number, and the only time i've heard it sung with the intro was by a girl singer, (I think Julie London but not 100%) anyhow the intro leads into the famous......

.....BLUE MOON
Look For Small Pleasures

Hi Terence---you may think I am biased [ a little], but apart from Ruthie Henshall and Linda Ronsdadt, my other favourite version is by Johnny Mathis. Not only because he does a great rendition, but he also sang it at a Fan Club Lunch--just a small roomfull of people---John and his guitarist--a magical and unforgettable memory!!

I did not know Blue Moon--I know the song of course, but I do not remember hearing that intro. I cannot think who the other artist that Lena and Harry are thinkig of---I know Cliff Richard has sung it [no intro], but I do not think it is him.

Marty---where is your verse for us to guess?
